Responsible for the supervision and leadership development of a team. Determines the team vision, objectives, resource allocation, staffing, scheduling, and employee evaluations. Develops and executes strategic actions that will drive performance goals while maintaining compliance requirements.

Discover Home Equity Loans, a line of business within Discover Bank, provides first and second lien mortgages secured by a customer's primary residence. The business is growing and seeking to add an Area Manager to lead multiple operations teams in New Castle, Delaware.

The Area Manager will be responsible for sales and operational support in Discover's Home Equity Department. The Area Manager reports to the Underwriting Department Manager and will manage multiple teams in a call center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations activities for multiple sales or processing teams in a call center environment to grow funded loan volume, ensure customer satisfaction, comply with regulations/company policies, and manage expenses. Teams may include: Dialer Agents, Mortgage Bankers, Processors, and other Operations Support Staff.

  • Ensure the organization has sufficient daily capacity (people, systems, seating, etc.) to adequately cover all work loads.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Training for recruiting/training of all employees. Maintain new hire plan that incorporates turnover and volume trend analysis.

  • Evaluate operational performance, identify opportunities for improvement, prioritize initiatives, and allocate operational resources. Drive a high quality culture, and lead implementation of continuous improvement efforts in operations.

  • Collaborate with peers in product, marketing, processing, underwriting and other areas as well as third-party vendors to define and achieve goals.

  • Provides technical expertise to staff to solve complex client issues and inquiries such as complaints, special projects, requests for information, and special reporting.

  • Collaborates and consults with process owners, strategy manager, compliance, legal, and systems teams to identify remediation efforts to ensure compliance with personnel policies.

  • Determines the team's vision, objectives, and resource allocation to support the vision and to deliver priorities of the organization.

  • Assists department management with managing client requests, planning, budgeting, and expense control.

  • Ensures proper staffing in order to meet work requirements. Develops and implements strategies for reducing turnover and assuring compliance with the company's affirmative action plan. Recommends actions regarding transfers, promotions, performance reviews, and terminations when appropriate.



Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • 2+ years of experience in Management, Operations Leadership, or related field

  • In lieu of education, 4+ years of experience in Management, Operations Leadership, or related field

    Preferred Qualifications

    If we had our say, we'd also look for:

  • Associate's/Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years' experience in residential first mortgage or home equity industry experience in fulfillment including processing, underwriting, closing, funding or quality testing operations. Other related mortgage experience considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years people management experience.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal regulations and Compliance guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Responsible for the performance management of the team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other reporting programs.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exercises good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Partners effectively with Sales and Fulfillment leaders and staff.


Individuals in this position are required to comply with all rules and regulations of The Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (The SAFE Act). Employees hired or transferring into this position will need to meet the qualification requirements, in DISCOVER FINANCIAL SERVICES sole discretion, under Reg. Z, prior to acting as a loan originator in any capacity, with access to consumer credit transactions secured by a dwelling. Qualification requirements include but are not limited to an assessment of overall financial responsibility, character, and general fitness through review of a criminal background check, credit report, and information about any administrative, civil, or criminal findings by any government jurisdiction.
