We are seeking a driven Alliance Management professional for a position within Mount Sinai Innovation Partners (‘MSIP’), the commercialization office of the Mount Sinai Health System (“MSHS”).  The Assistant/Associate Director of Alliance Management is senior-level position and an ideal candidate is reliable, motivated, efficient, collaborative, outcome-driven, and can thrive and execute in a fast-paced environment. 

The Alliance Manager is responsible for managing the relationships and contractual obligations between Mount Sinai and external partners that arise from strategically important licensing deals and research collaborations.  The alliance management process is initiated immediately after a deal or collaboration is signed, and it is the responsibility of Alliance Management to translate complex scientific, operational and financial terms, conditions and obligations into manageable activities and milestones to help ensure that innovative therapeutics, diagnostics, devices and other technologies are made available to our worldwide patient population and become the new standard of care.  

Alliance Management works closely with our external partners, Mount Sinai faculty and the internal MSIP teams (Business Development, Patents, Contracting and Finance & Operations) to coordinate post-deal compliance and research obligations.  Alliance Management creates critical business processes, keeps track of key project/agreement milestones and timelines, coordinates and leads alliance team meetings, prepares executive summaries and presents to Senior Leadership as needed.

The Assistant/Associate Director, Alliance Management is a positive, energetic, self-starter that develops strong relationships and networks, influences decisions and thinks strategically about Mount Sinai assets.  Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are critical. An ability to manage many diverse and sometimes competing scientific and business priorities ensure a successful, long-term with commercial and non-profit organizations is key to ensuring successful, long term partnerships between Mount Sinai and external collaborators.  

  • For each strategic alliance, works openly and transparently to build and maintain trust with internal academic colleagues and external parties.
  • Identifies and understands Mount Sinai’s short-term and long-term goals for each alliance and works with internal stakeholders to ensure that activities are aligned to accomplish these goals in a productive and efficient manner. 
  • Understands governance of relevant contracts and acts as the primary point of contact with external partners to coordinate, communicate and document governance matters. 
  • Manages data sharing protocols according to contractual obligations and monitors compliance.
  • Creates and maintains records that enable a clear understanding of any partnership under Alliance Management “at a glance” and its evolution, particularly for partnerships that may lead to marketed products or services. 
  • Proactively identifies risks or points of disagreement in a partnership and addresses in a time-sensitive manner, engaging senior leadership as needed.  The approach taken in each situation is driven by a commitment to transforming obstacles into opportunities.
  • Serves as a champion for the relationship with external parties, anticipating partnership-driven next-steps ahead of or as a result of steering committee or leadership meetings or other related communication.  Engages and seeks input of others, continually connecting moving parts, and with ongoing communication that encourages an outcome driven commitment to the alliance.
  • As appropriate, identifies new opportunities for business development evolving from existing collaborations.
  • Coordinates MSIP activities (e.g. patent filing, prosecution, contract modifications, etc.).
  • Is a MSIP brand ambassador, and always reflects the brand - in appearance, language, work ethic and behavior.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, demonstrating agility and adaptability as the position requires based on organizational needs.  

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, preferred
  • PhD, MBA or JD, a plus
  • 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or academic healthcare sectors;
  • Experience working as a project manager on initiatives that involve multiple organizations and/or managing large, complex projects;
  • Exposure to healthcare data analytics or technology preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with close attention to detail
  • Strong business and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to influence in difficult situations using scientific, legal and/or business knowledge
  • Track record of establishing and sustaining effective partnerships with both internal colleagues and external parties
  • Experience working on projects that integrate scientific, legal, and business issues with an eye towards practical, efficient solutions
