Assistant Director - Custom Development

What you will do:

You as the Assistant Director will play a key leadership role in Enterprise Services, a division within CIT. You will lead the Custom Development team which is comprised of 30+ professionals whose primary function is the development of new websites and web-based applications.  These could be anything from a faculty member looking to create a new web page for their research to one of our colleges requesting a complete overhaul of their web presence. Regardless of the scope of the request you will strive to utilize your knowledge of web development, project management, web accessibility, user experience and design to provide our clients with robust solutions that address their business needs. As a senior leader in the Enterprise Services organization you will:

  • Lead a team responsible for all aspects of the software development life cycle from initiation, design, development, test, implementation and on-going support; including enhancements, website and web application software upgrades, maintenance and vulnerability updates
  • Project Management - You will manage project resource allocations, priorities, and work effort to optimize time to delivery with the goal of exceeding our customer’s expectations
  • Collaborate - Collaboration is key! You will develop effective working partnership’s within CIT, Colleges, Administrative Business Officers, Vice Presidents, Vice Provosts, and unit leaders to understand their business needs, requirements, and plans as they relate to Custom Development
  • Monitor and track the financial aspects of the Custom Development business to insure we meet our targeted goals for cost recovery and are in alignment with the forecasted budget
  • You will collaborate with peer institutions to further enhance the services Custom Development offers and maintain a position of leadership among universities of similar size and complexity.

 

What you will be:

You will be a people person who is passionate about leading a team, technology and solving complex problems. You will be a forward leaning leader who is open and embracing of new technologies. We work as a team here, so collaboration is key! Additionally, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience with at least 5 years leading a team focused on web development
  • Significant experience in project management with a firm understanding of different methodologies (agile, waterfall, scrum, etc.) and the ability to adapt your team’s approach based on the business need.
  • Significant experience in web development practices and frameworks with the ability to apply different methodologies to meet the project’s objectives.
  • Significant experience with software development technologies such as Drupal, Python and Web Services
  • Expert knowledge of Web Content Accessibility 2.0 guidelines
  • Ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects while managing customer’s expectations, and delivering solutions on-time and within budget
  • Enthusiasm for learning emerging technologies and integrating them into projects
  • Lastly, it goes without saying that communication skills are paramount. You will be working with all different levels of the organization and should enjoy explaining complex technical concepts to different audiences; technical and non-technical people

 

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it’s ok if you don’t.

  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)
  • Professional experience in higher education as a manager and/or leader
