The School of Professional Studies (SPS) at Columbia University invites applications for positions at the rank of full-time Associate Professor of Professional Practice/Professor of Professional Practice to teach in the MS Program in Information & Knowledge Strategy. The program prepares students to develop and use the essential skills of data analytics, collaboration, strategy, entrepreneurship, innovative product design, and change management to prepare them for leadership in 21st Century organizations. To accomplish this, students learn how to leverage mission-critical data, information, and knowledge to optimize organizational outcomes.  

This position, which will begin on July 1, 2022, is a full-time appointment with a multi-year renewal contingent on successful review.

We seek high-quality candidates with a graduate degree in business intelligence, computer science, knowledge management, strategic management, entrepreneurship, or a quantitative discipline directly related to the program’s objectives. Experience in graduate level teaching and curriculum development is required as well as a demonstrated record of contributions to academic scholarship and applications in companies, non-profits, NGOs, or government. Experience in advising students on independent research or consulting projects, where students solve real-world challenges with third party entities, is a plus.

 

This position will involve regular teaching in the program’s core and elective courses. The successful candidate will teach courses related to information and knowledge strategy in one or more of the following areas:

  • Foundations for the knowledge-driven organization;
  • Knowledge processes, practices, and governance;
  • Leading business analytics for the enterprise;
  • Digital product innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • Digital workplace and transformation;
  • Building effective knowledge strategy for organizations.

 

The Associate Professor of Professional Practice/Professor of Professional Practice will also participate in instructional design, student mentoring, and overall development of the Information & Knowledge Strategy program.

Required Qualifications

  • All applicants MUST have an MA/MS
  • Broad body of interdisciplinary research and publications, demonstrating innovative contributions to academic scholarship as well as to applications in companies, non-profits, NGOs, or government are required.
  • Candidates at the rank of Professor of Professional Practice are expected to have attained a superlative record of teaching and professional expertise.
  • Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor of Professional Practice are expected to have a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching and professional growth.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold a doctoral degree in business intelligence, computer science, knowledge management, strategic management, entrepreneurship, or a quantitative discipline directly related to the Information & Knowledge Strategy program's objectives.
  • Possess 10+ years of professional practice, including leadership roles directing departments or organizations operating in quantitative environments. 
  • Proven track record of successfully working across a range of academic disciplines and industry sectors.
  • Excellence in graduate level teaching and mentoring students.
  • Extensive experience in curriculum development (individual courses as well as degree requirement design) and in student recruiting
