Business Innovation and Improvement Consultant

Responsible for executing strategic and transformational projects aimed at achieving the strategic goals and objectives of the City of Vaughan; develops and maintains the City’s framework for continuous improvement; collaborates with staff to identify, analyze, prioritize, develop, implement and track opportunities to transform the business using innovative ideas, process improvement and by leveraging technology; provides expertise in process design, enterprise level integration of business processes, identifying technology solutions, managing risks and enhancing customer experience to drive innovation for the corporation; project management and change management while implementing innovation and process improvement initiatives; liaises with other municipalities and organizations to identify trends in business transformation that impact the change levers of people, process and technology; implements process improvement and technology deployment strategies aligned with the Corporation’s strategic vision, direction and Service Excellence priorities. Projects will include, but are not limited to: business process reviews and analysis, technology enhancements, electronic service delivery, implementation of regulatory changes. and change management of business processes.

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science or suitable equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in developing and implementing business transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in innovation strategies is an asset
  • PMP designation
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • Change Management Practitioner
  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex issues.
  • Data analytics and modeling.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Very comfortable using process mapping, project management and financial modeling tools (e.g., Visio, Project and Excel) in developing deliverables on initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver business transformation results working with, and leading, project teams in all phases of an initiative, from opportunity identification, through transformation design, recommendation and solution implementation to impact measurement.
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills supported by project management experience; team leadership and facilitation capabilities.
  • Comfortable using and developing methodologies to initiate and execute business transformation opportunities utilizing sound project management principles, practices and theories.
  • Ability to self-manage, with demonstrated effective interpersonal skills working independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective organizational skills coupled with ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Strong and effective report writing skills, particularly in developing and marketing a case for change.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core and leadership competencies as well as relevant departmental functional competencies.
  • A valid Ontario ‘G’ driver’s license, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
  • Occasional construction site visits accompanying specialist staff
