About DAI’s Sustainable Business Group

SBG is a specialized department within DAI Global, LLC that leads engagements with private sector clients in the oil, gas, mining, power, and renewable energy sectors around issues of supporting local participation in international commerce and investment.  Its core services to its clientele cover the following areas:

  • Local content policy and regulatory advisory and training
  • Local content analytics and forecasting
  • Strategy, design and execution of corporate social investment programs and enterprise development centers

Please see SBG’s webpage for more detail: https://www.dai.com/our-work/solutions/sustainable-business.

SBG’s uses custom proprietary software in support of its analytics and forecasting service line.  This software is used to forecast the domestic economic value added from the building and operation of capital projects in various countries.  To do this, a detailed but illustrative cost decomposition of the capital project is required.  This decomposition breaks down an overall capital project cost by project phase, activity, sub-activity, and ultimately into procurement packages typical to the project type.

  • Produce template cost and schedule estimations of identified capital project types.
    • Each capital project template must:
      • Cover all typical project phases (both CAPEX and OPEX) over time.
      • Be modular in structure (by asset, activity or other relevant grouping)
      • Be scalable (by capacity and time)
      • Be to a reasonable level of detail to allow for application of a procurement strategy
    • Each capital project template must include:
      • A detailed list of assumptions and exclusions
      • Identification of 5-10 parameters by which the template could be scaled or lengthened / shortened.  Typical values for these parameters should be provided, as well as a 90% confidence interval of likely values
      • Written questions that could be asked of oil and gas operators to obtain values for each of the 5-10 project parameters
      • Written description about the capital project type, including:
        • Important project characteristics
        • Important factors that distinguish templated project from other types of projects.
        • Description of factors that typically change the 5-10 project parameters.  Address the “what”, “how”, and “why” for each factor.

Skills Required

  • Formally-trained cost estimator
  • Demonstrated experience in cost and schedule estimating for a variety of large capital projects in the oil and gas industry.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Deadline-driven
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
