Be a part of the leadership team that sets the standard and innovates around Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) education, community engagement, sustainability and marketing. This is a key function in helping the university develop talent that will drive new industries and the innovation workforce of the future.

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Innovation & Commercialization, the incumbent is responsible for strategic development of I&E programming to incubate the next generation of innovators that will drive the economy of the future. The incumbent works with the AVC and others in the Office of Innovation & Commercialization and across the campus to propose new programs, develop policy around campus I&E, market and communicate the successes of those programs and develop strategies for the financial sustainability of the programs. These programs expose the campus population, and students in particular, to an entrepreneurial mindset, provide experiential learning experiences and support their individual innovation journey. Strategically encourage collaboration across multiple I&E programs/projects offered by various groups across the campus; and provide effective engagement between those programs and the campus community and the broader San Diego innovation community. Oversees the marketing of programs to the campus and engagement with the San Diego community on a number of levels.

Serves as an ambassador for student-focused programs, and represents the department in student outreach and engagement activities both on and off campus. Oversees an events function that organizes visits and collaborates with campus partners and team members to plan and manage joint innovation events and activities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from college with a major in business administration, marketing, economics, educational administration, or a related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience performing strategic planning and/or programming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with diverse student and community populations. Advanced presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.

  • Experience in marketing and/or communications for public relations purposes.

  • Experience managing a team. Supervisory skills and ability to direct others; strong demonstrated ability to delegate, motivate, and evaluate employees. Demonstrated leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to recruit and train staff.

  • Analytical / problem-solving skills. Highly developed analytical skills.

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Strong policy analysis techniques.

  • Experience planning, organizing, and implementing community and/or educational events.

  • Experience creating standard measurements and performance metrics.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team, and to remain flexible in a strong service and results oriented environment while providing imagination and creative solutions.

  • Experience coaching students.
