Title: Director of Project Management 

Reports to: Vice President and Chief Officer Operations and Advancement

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Location: US Based Home Office

Start Date: Immediate 

 

This is a new and exciting position at Facing History, under the leadership of the VP and Chief Officer Operations and Advancement.  The Director of Project Management (DPM) at Facing History resides within the Operations department and will be responsible for leading diverse and cross-functional team(s) to evaluate, design, build, and implement solutions to support various project goals. The DPM will engage various stakeholders and work collaboratively across initiatives, regions, and teams to develop individual project strategies and secure necessary resources to deliver project results.  There is potential for this role to grow and manage other project management roles within the organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and highly motivated individual to impact the project management process at a mid-size educational non profit organization doing critical anti-racist and anti-bias work.

 

Who You Are: You are an experienced project manager who is comfortable managing projects of various size and scope. You are able to build collaborative cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders at various levels within the organization.  You have the capacity to solve problems, exhibit grace under pressure, and support project teams in adapting to changes in direction and priorities. You are deadline driven and are able to move projects through to completion while bringing people to consensus during the process.  

 

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Apply project management practices,  processes, and tools with flexibility to manage multiple projects from launch to completion; establish timelines, allocate resources, estimate capacity, track budgets and report on project status. 

  • Engage with various stakeholders and work collaboratively across functions, regions, and organizational teams to develop the individual project strategies and secure necessary resources to deliver project results.

  • Effectively manage project team(s) ensuring good cross-functional communication

  • Collaborate and coordinate across multiple departments and initiatives, and with leadership stakeholders, to deliver on–time projects that meet stated goals

  • Establish team roles and responsibilities, track capacity and allocate resources; re-allocate resources when necessary to keep the overall project on schedule.

  • Consider upcoming projects and estimate capacity based on anticipated workload.

  • Develop and use project plans that provide project scope, objectives, specifications, and benchmarks.

  • Support hiring and manage relationships with external service providers as needed; write and execute contracts with vendors and consultants; liaise with external project managers as needed.

  • Commit to gaining a foundational understanding of Facing History’s mission and work.

  • Other related duties as required by position.

 

Requirements

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of project management experience in a fast-paced environment producing a high volume of multi-faceted projects; Minimum of 2 years in a team or project leadership position

  • Ability to apply project management tools and practices at the right level of detail 

  • Ability to manage multiple large scale projects from kick-off to project delivery 

  • Ability to adjust project resources, timelines and costs to deliver on time and within budget 

  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills 

  • Experience putting team members at ease with project management processes (required)

  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and capacity to help project teams adapt to change in an environment where priorities can shift 

  • Capacity for creative problem solving and grace under pressure 

  • Flagging and escalating when a project requires additional support to remove barriers to completion 

  • Experience with a wide array of project management tools and methodologies

  • Non Profit, education, and/or startup experience preferred
