The Office of Research Program Management (ORPM) at West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Director. The Director of the Office of Research Program Management will provide visionary leadership to improve national prominence, develop new programs, and increase funding support for the ORPM. The Director will also represent the ORPM to partners outside of the university, develop and cultivate government agency and industry sponsor relationships, and manage the productivity and effectiveness of these relationships. 

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Direct business development efforts by strategically planning for development and growth through identifying, developing, and securing new partners and opportunities.
  • Identify and develop business partners and subcontractors to augment interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Develop and manage relationships with selected business partners, academic partners, and government agencies.
  • Represent the programs to partners outside the university; develop and cultivate government agency and industry sponsor relationships and manage the productivity and effectiveness of these relationships.
  • Provide strategic direction to external and internal promotional publications, advertisements, and news media for the Programs.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain customer service standards for outreach, education, and promotion activities and broaden these activities to new audiences.
  • Advocate the programs with college, University, State, and Federal stakeholders.
  • Work directly with associate deans, chairs and faculty within the University in the expansion of research and development, training, and other programs related to the Programs’ mission.
  • Develop, manage, and sustain relationships with federal agency decision makers and program managers.
  • Provide administrative oversight and management of budgets, timelines, and staffing for the Programs and program projects.

  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Business, Education, Program Management or related field.
  • Six (6) years of experience in a director level, program management or similar leadership experience.
  • Certified Project Management Professional credential.
  • Proven ability to lead a diverse team of faculty/industry and government

    members in the formulation of research agenda that meets prescribed goals in support of vision.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning,resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process. 
  • Some travel required to accomplish position objectives.
