Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager leads all manufacturing engineering, encompassing capital and process development projects, providing technical knowledge/expertise, negotiate contracts and pricing for capital equipment and services. Responsible for providing leadership, outstanding people skills, and management to a team of Engineers. Responsible for installation, improvement of production lines, managing contractors, and ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Full budgetary responsibility for the department. Implement and manage continuous improvement principles by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes. Ensures the engineering team and other departments work together cohesively providing smooth project handoffs to manufacturing and maintenance. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice engineering; planning vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
  • Drive functional excellence, continuous training, and development of the engineering team; drive continuous improvement activities in safety, quality, process improvement, machine capacity through lean techniques and value engineering to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste
  • Manage multi plant capital budget, keeping budget up to date, on target and ensuring changes to the plan are communicated and approved
  • Identify and justify capital equipment investment – ROI
  • Identify new technology and equipment manufacturers
  • Develop and maintain project plans and budgets to ensure delivery of milestones to agreed cost targets and timelines
  • Design, prove, implement, and maintain production systems to deliver product on time, to safety, quality, and cost requirements
  • Manage engineering projects as needed
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems; identify business improvement opportunities within the organization; identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required
  • Work with cross functional teams to analyze downtime, identify trends, develop solutions, and ensure departments are directionally aligned
  • Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility; ensure KPIs are met by working to the overall plan
  • Ensure advances in technology/processes are shared and consistent across the corporation
  • Ensure accuracy of Engineering procedures and documentation

Requirements

  • Minimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field, Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, demonstrating an increased level of responsibility, and managing an engineering or other technical team
  • 10+ years’ experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping and FMEA in order to formulate and implement process improvements and best practices in a manufacturing environment
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
  • Analytical and mathematical skills, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
  • Experience overseeing the planning of workforce utilization, space requirement, workflow, and design layouts of equipment and workspace
  • Demonstrated bias for action, making timely decisions and taking action with an uncompromising commitment to maintain excellence in technical/functional accountability
  • Proven ability to effectively use MS Office (specifically, Word, Project, Excel) and other applicable software applications to include AutoCAD; experience using Office 365 is preferred
  • Travel as required
