Fermilab’s seeks an Engineering Project Manager to join our diverse team. Under general direction and having meaningful latitude for un-reviewed action or decision, develops and leads projects associated with designing specialized equipment or structures by setting project objectives, coordinating and monitoring project activities, owning the project staff, identifying documentation requirements or procedures, and implementing the project plan. Specifically, this position will assist in all aspects of project management and operational execution involved in building a compact superconducting accelerator. 

You will:

  • Take coordinates and integrates project activities to deliver the project on time, on budget and mitigating risk.
  • Develop, modify, or provide guidance to project plans; these plans comprise the following:
    • Project Execution Plan
    • Acquisition Strategy
    • Project Management Plan
    • Conceptual Design Report
    • Project Data Sheets
    • Hazard Analyses and Safety Analysis Reports
    • Technical Design Report / Engineering Design Report
    • Earned Value Management System Description
    • Value Engineering Plan / Document
    • Risk Management Plan
    • Quality Assurance Plan
    • Construction Project Safety and Health Plan
    • Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Exhibit 300
  • Establish effective relationships between functional departments to ensure project goal alignment. 
  • Assist in procuring engineering materials and services.
  • Lead development of cost estimates, monitors and handles obligations to the budget profile, and supervises/manages actual costs.
  • Give presentations or briefings on the project. Communicates with Senior Project Manager, Division/Section Managers, the Director’s Office and funding entities regarding status of specific projects. Participates in phase, milestone, and final project reviews.
  • Assemble, install and remove a variety of mechanical parts, sub-assemblies, support assemblies, and components, based on drawings, diagrams, and sketches as instructed. Performs engineering analysis, writes reports and builds presentations on a computer. Assists in providing technical requirements and writing specifications to meet criteria set by projects. Collaborates with technical staff to verify system functionality and performance.

We are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s in an applicable Engineering subject area from an ABET accredited institution with 6+ years of engineering experience, or a Master’s or PhD in an applicable Engineering subject area from an ABET accredited institution with 2+ years of engineering experience
  • Proficient in application of theories, concepts, principles, and methodology for the engineering subject area.
  • Possess project planning skills in developing specifications and documents for major and technically complex engineering projects and engineering design solutions.
  • Proven track record to communicate clearly using verbal and written practices with customers / partners and with team members.
  • Demonstrated ability managing projects.
  • Must have strong computing skills including preparing and documenting engineering calculations, data presentation, and project management activities (cost estimates, schedules).
  • Experience in procurement processes is desirable.
