Job Description

Position Description:

Responsible for two key areas: 1) Oversight of the most strategic initiatives to the organization to ensure the program status and financial goals are being tracked and monitored and 2) To project manage the work streams underneath the initiatives. The Program Manager will either manage projects, manage programs or provide support to the business lead to give guidance on best practices in project management. This includes scope definition, schedule creation and maintenance, implementation plans and monitoring action items, risks and issues. This is a project leadership role with a blend of IT project management and knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with well-rounded business acumen. Also acts as the business analyst in creating requirements and managing requirement changes throughout the project life cycle. Coaches and mentors other EPMO Project Managers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


FinancialSustains growth through financial stewardship & fiscal responsibility.

  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situation or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors to achieve best results; demonstrates a strong knowledge, expertise, contributing in senior management discussions regarding business unit strategic goals, programs and initiatives.
  • Recognizes and provides data to assess when a project has decreased its ROI to the point of a negative impact.
  • Ability to look at the portfolio holistically to identify impacts to current systems, other projects, resources and specific focus on in-store operations.
  • Develops the business case, investments needed, and timing for new strategic projects within the long range plan.
  • Ensures projects are not going off track due to preventable reasons and achieves deliverables in a timely manner.


Customer & CommunityCollaborates with customers to understand and deliver customer’s needs & expectations.

  • Creates status dashboards to show the overall health, trending on budget, scope, issues, and risks and results for stakeholders.
  • Identifies points of potential failure on a project to course correct and mitigate the project from going off track. Gives specific direction in order to solve for the potential issues.
  • Acts as liaison with IT leadership on resourcing for the projects.
  • Consuls on facilitating and leading a project when needed around the organization.
  • Facilitates mapping sessions with Business or IT Leads and team to assist with scope creation, schedule creation, identifying critical path and key milestones on non-strategic projects.
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service to stakeholders.

Operational ExcellenceImplements strategies to maximize resources and infrastructure.

  • Primary responsibility is to lead and drive the success of the implementation of the projects and programs using best practices in project methodology, providing leadership to ensure implementations are on time, on budget, delivered with quality and have defined and tracked success criteria. Interfaces with Senior and Executive management to provide strategic and tactical advice on resource utilization, program/project planning and execution.
  • Either as the Project Manager or in giving guidance to Business Leads, manages scope creation defining clear goals for the success of the project with the ability to measure them, facilitates requirements gathering and documents all requirements, execution and control of the project with action items, risk monitoring and mitigation, change control, quality control, schedule creation, weekly status meetings, issues and resolution, go/no-go checklist, implementation plan, and budget monitoring.
  • Provides support to business leads on small/medium projects to help set-up their projects and do period check-ins on the status of the project.
  • May need to act as business analyst on projects, as needed.  This includes gathering business requirements, generating as-is and to-be process flows, wireframes and minimal data requirements and reporting requirements.  This does not include technical/data or design requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Preferred 7+ years’ experience in Project management running large, complex projects with proven track record managing parallel work streams.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, Powerpoint and MSProject with the ability to create Executive level presentations.  Smartsheet experience a plus.
  • Ability to focus at the macro level of a program or the micro level of a project.
  • Ability to manage multiple project teams and potentially multiple Project Managers.
  • Strong understanding of process and best practices surrounding project management using PMI methodology.
  • Possesses strong work ethic, organizational skills with attention to detail with the ability to prioritize well, balances time and quality within a project, and works to a tight schedule.
  • Possesses strong problem analysis and decision making ability with an aptitude for learning.
  • Proven track record of planning and delivery of complex projects with parallel work streams.
  • Strong leadership presence, facilitation, negotiation, and listening skills.
  • Experience working with IT and managing third party vendors.
  • Results-oriented with a commitment to quality, willing to take on new challenges, self-motivated, takes ownership, goal-oriented.
  • Strong coaching ability, collaborative, works well in team environment, displays positive attitude. Flexible to meet the challenges of an ever changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be persuasive and tactful and influence without authority.
  • Adept with managing conflict (e.g. vendors or internally with project teams) and holding stakeholders accountable.
  • Demonstrate the ability to concentrate/focus under challenging conditions or deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and clean MVR.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position.
