Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Oversees technical and environmental projects for the Barnwell Disposal Facility (BDF), including BDF engineering and construction projects and environmental program projects. Oversees design and construction of disposal trench and vault systems, and related facilities to ensure on-going operations at the BDF. Evaluates the air, water and land systems data to determine the environmental impact of operations and directs the implementation of appropriate corrective action if necessary.
  • Responsible for the selection, oversight and direction of consultants and contractors involved with the implementation of the BDF environmental program, site engineering, and site construction activities.
  • Leads the planning and implementation of BDF engineering and construction projects.
  • Evaluates the air, water and land systems data to determine the environmental impact of operations and guides implementation of appropriate corrective action if necessary.
  • Ensures preparation and approval of all applicable project documentation and ensures project scope is accomplished within schedule and budget.
  • Liaises with project stakeholders on a routine basis.
  • Identifies and manages scope change and ensures changes to Statement of Work are documented and communicates those changes to customer and management.
  • Manages budgets and schedules and provides reporting to management, as necessary.
  • Tracks project cost and provides direction to accounting department for the preparation of project invoices.
  • Acts as a primary interface between EnergySolutions and clients by implementing project status meetings (as appropriate) with clients.
  • Ensures that all activities are performed safely and in accordance with applicable SCDHEC, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Occupational Safety & Health Administration standards, state requirements and all applicable client procedures, permits and licenses.
  • Reviews environmental monitoring reports (e.g. groundwater and other media) submitted to regulators to ensure regulatory requirements are met and approves the reports before their submittal.
  • Provides leadership and direction to project personnel.
  • Manages personnel of varying disciplines and degrees of experience with emphasis on teamwork.
  • Ensures project personnel perform all activities safely and are committed to a safe and accident-free working environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience with or in directing contractors performing engineering or scientific evaluations
  • Proven project management experience related to engineering, design and/or construction
  • Ability to manage and/or monitor multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously
  • Knowledge of current technology and requirements related to environmental monitoring practices and sample collection
  • Knowledge of applicable environmental compliance codes, standards and regulations
  • Detailed understanding of how to prescribe, apply and assess compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database applications

Ability to perform in project manager capacity

 

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; reach above or below shoulder
  • Ability to use hands and feet to accomplish tasks as assigned
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, and bend/stoop
  • Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
  • Ability to see close and distant; basic colors
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work inside an office, outside, and on walking uneven surfaces
  • Ability to work alone, work with others, and interact with the public
  • Ability to drive a vehicle

 

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required in engineering or science (e.g., geology or environmental sciences)

  • A professional certification or license in an engineering, geology, or other science field strongly preferred
  • Ability to obtain a professional certification or license in an engineering, geology, or other science field strongly preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in an environmental specialty, engineering, geology or technical project management. Experience interacting with state and/or federal regulators
