Our Government Consulting Group is seeking an ERP Implementation Consultant to join our Local Government Practice Area in our Phoenix, Arizona office. The primary focus of the role is to serve as our clients’ Project Manager, working with client and vendor teams as they implement enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement standard project and program management methodologies and tools

  • Lead delivery of services to clients on time, within scope, and within budget, including managing the project team and creating written deliverables

  • Oversee the full implementation life cycle of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software on behalf of clients including the following aspects:

    • Project Initiation (i.e. developing project governance model, developing initial project planning documents, reviewing planning and initiation deliverables from the software vendor)

    • Vendor Management (i.e. tracking vendor performance, coordinate task assignments to manage to the vendor’s project plan, work as client’s primary liaison to vendor project manager)

    • Project Plan, Schedule and Task Management (i.e. maintain the project plan and resource plans, conduct ongoing status meetings/reporting, track project performance against key indicators including scope, schedule, and cost baselines, coordinate task completion by client staff, manage the client project team including IT, Finance, and HR staff)

    • Risk and Issue Management (i.e. identify and report on project risks and issues to client and vendor staff, lead and oversee the resolution/mitigation of identified issues and risks)

    • Client Leadership Support (i.e. advise client executives on best practices for navigating project challenges and decision points, act on the client’s behalf to escalate issues with vendor leadership, conduct regular executive status meetings/reporting)

    • Stakeholder Management (i.e. conducting stakeholder analysis, coordinate client teams to promote a high-performing project culture, oversee resource assignments and task completion to ensure project remains on track, conduct frequent and clear communications with client and vendor stakeholders)

    • Business Process Advising (i.e. participate in vendor work sessions to advise client on business process design, document workflow processes)

    • Testing Oversight (i.e. create User Acceptance Testing plan and scripts, provide oversight of client testing, conduct analysis of testing results for executive reporting)

    • Go-Live Preparation and Project Closure (i.e. conducting go-live readiness assessments, provide recommendations for course corrections needed to achieve go-live, provide pre- and post-go live project management support, leading lessons learned exercises, work with client to transition project to operational status)


In addition to client project management responsibilities, this position also provides the opportunity to contribute to the firm’s internal operations including new business development and staff development efforts.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 3-5 years project management experience

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities to autonomously achieve quality results in a timely manner

  • Ability to use problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills to resolve project issues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication style to a variety of audiences, from C-suite to line staff, in a way that allows all parties to engage effectively in complex issues

  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority

  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships with diverse teams

  • Sense of urgency and commitment to client satisfaction

  • Ability to work effectively as a team player

  • Ability to working in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing dynamics and priorities

  • Positive, “can do” attitude that inspires and motivates others

  • Willingness and ability to travel 35-50% (While 35-50% of travel is a requirement of the role, due to COVID-19, non-essential travel has been suspended until further notice.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or other post-graduate degree

  • Current PMP certification

  • Change management certification (i.e. Prosci CCP, ACMP CCMP) or equitable experience in organizational change management

  • Experience working in one of the following settings:

    • In a city or county government, or other local government entity;

    • In a consulting firm;

    • On ERP system selection and implementation projects;

    • On business process analysis and design projects;

    • On other large-scale enterprise change projects
