IT PROJECT MANAGER I

(Limited Term)

$109,324 - $136,656 / Month

San Mateo County's Health Information Technology Division is seeking highly motivated Project Managers to join our team and help lay the groundwork to facilitate data sharing and improve outcomes. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can manage the intricacies of all phases of the projects' life-cycle with finesse, confidence and an entrepreneurial spirit. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager looking to manage exciting projects in the healthcare arena.

The successful candidates will be responsible for requirements gathering, team management and project planning for software solutions. They will effectively document, analyze, communicate and report on defined deliverables, resource requirements, work plans and budgets, and barriers to success related to client projects. The candidates must have strong communication skills and be comfortable working with front line staff, management, technical staff and external vendors.

Exciting project opportunities:

  • Policy Management System - An online system for managing the lifecycle of the Health System policies, procedures and additional key documents 

  • Avatar Enhancements - Review and gather requirements around the MTU program within Family Health to make changes to the current system of record

  • Electronic Document Management Solution & Integration - An online software program that manages the creation, storage and control of documents electronically

  • Secure Messaging and Alerting - Automated and HIPAA compliant way to communicate to staff and customers

  • Wireless Temperature Monitoring System - High-density automated storage and retrieval for pharmacy goods that saves space and reduces errors

  • Automated Pharmacy Drug Storage System - High-density automated storage and retrieval for pharmacy goods that saves space and reduces errors


Ideal candidates will have:

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university
  • 3-5 years of experience in Health Case Management Applications as a Project Lead, Project Manager or equivalent role
  • 5-7 years of experience in Healthcare Information Technology as a Project Manager
  • A solid understanding of project leadership principles; candidate must demonstrate their approach to project scheduling, scope and budget development

 Candidates should have the ability to:

  • Solve problems, identify solutions and appropriately escalate issues
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of personnel throughout the organization
  • Achieve established deadlines and manage change effectively
  • Review products/solutions for integrity (accuracy, validity, precision, security, completeness)


These are limited term, at-will positions.  Limited Term Employees are assigned to assignments not to exceed three years. They receive medical and dental benefits, similar to regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan.
