Reporting to the Director, Facilities Management as the Manager, Planning and Redevelopment, you will join CMH as we embrace a new era of care, expanded services and innovation. In January 2020, we opened a new five-storey patient care wing that has:

  • Patient care areas double in size, including large surgical suites that accommodate advanced minimally invasive surgical equipment.
  • A 40-bay Emergency Department with dedicated treatment areas for mental health and different subspecialties.
  • Expanded inpatient Mental Health, Mental Health Day Hospital and Intensive Care programs
  • A patient-centered building design, promoting safety, advanced infection control, healing and intuitive wayfinding, while maximizing natural lighting and sight lines to the natural beauty of the Grand River. 

The hospital is preparing for its next transformative phase that includes a total renovation of its Wing B inpatient care and clinical support areas. Upon completion in 2025, our new hospital will increase its beds from 143 to 197 to accommodate expanded services like Surgery, Rehabilitation, and Medicine programs as well as Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory services. About 80% of inpatient rooms will be single occupancy to meet the latest infection control and building code standards for hospitals.

Position Summary:

The Manager, Planning and Redevelopment is responsible for providing leadership to the hospital’s planning process: 

  • Support Phase 3 capital redevelopment project planning and sequencing.
  • Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team of hospital staff, clinicians, service providers, contractors and others to support move planning, required renovations and move management for each of the stages of the Capital Redevelopment Project.
  • Lead Phase 3 furniture, fixture and equipment planning and installation in collaboration with end user groups, consultants, contractors and vendors.
  • Support Phase 3 Operational Readiness planning requirements.
  • Facilitates the resolution of issues related to the delivery of patient care, which may be affected by tasks, as well as issues of health and safety, infection control and risk management related to project work.
  • Leads individual project planning, functional program development, design and the associated procurement process.
  • Coordinates CMH’s internal space planning process.
  • In partnership with the Director, leads CMH’s Master Planning process.
  • Provides leadership and direction in establishing CMH’s strategy to comply with Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

The successful incumbent will work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members to deliver exceptional patient care. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and bending. Other duties as per job fact sheet.

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

  • University degree or college diploma in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of health care planning and construction experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare and hospital operations, required.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with the Ministry’s capital planning process.
  • Master planning experience and a strong understanding of the interdependencies between Strategic Planning, Program Planning and physical plant infrastructure.
  • Proven management and leadership competencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preparing project schedules, budgets and reports.
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, time management, client engagement and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced team setting.  
  • Excellent MS Project, Word and Excel skills, required.
  • Ability to perform in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values of the hospital.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
