Milton Hershey School is currently seeking a full-time Mechanical Project Manager with a focus in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection work, with the ability to manage construction/renovation projects that also include general and electrical work. This position manages the pre-construction phase of assigned construction projects for all academic, athletic, and administrative facilities, student homes, and related infrastructure campus-wide. This position also oversees the construction phase of the work for small to medium size assigned projects. Responsibilities will include the following:
- Provide planning support required to define projects including the preparation of estimates for budgeting purposes, value analysis, and assisting in preparation of the annual capital budget;
- Work closely with Project Advocates to determine requirements and develop designs which satisfy the project needs;
- Coordinate the design work performed by Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firms;
- Perform simple design work that can be completed in-house;
- Interface with state and local agencies as required to obtain necessary permits/approvals;
- Manage the contractor bidding process including development of general requirement specifications, hold pre-bid meetings and contractor scope review meetings, and draft contracts;
- Oversee small to medium size construction projects including managing contractor work, preparing project construction schedules, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, reviewing/processing invoices and change orders, tracking/monitoring project costs in relation to approved budgets, inspecting work quality, and accepting completed work;
- Work with utility companies to modify existing services or install permanent and/or temporary services (gas/water/electric) as required;
- Request proposals and manage implementation of preventative maintenance.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in applicable Engineering, Architecture or Business field or, in absence of a Bachelor’s Degree, 10 years of related experience in construction/facilities management;
- Minimum of 8 years construction experience with at least 4 years experience in planning, management and field oversight;
- Experience in reading complex plans & specifications for bidding and construction processes;
- Knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory laws & regulations including familiarity with the IBC and Mechanical Building Code;
- Strong knowledge of construction methods and practices to review, assess, and resolve complex construction/design situations;
- Knowledge and skills to make recommendations on selection of correct materials & equipment for use/application, including ability to prepare cost comparisons versus life expectancy, etc.;
- Strong skills as a design/construction team leader;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written/oral), and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities;
- Strong networking and negotiating skills to interface with internal stakeholders & state and local agencies;
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Applications, project management software, etc.);
- Valid PA Driver’s License in good standing;
- OSHA 30-hour Certification;
- Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are considered to be role models for MHS students.
