About the role

Our new People Project Manager role, is an excellent opportunity for an experienced project manager, with a solid understanding of HR processes, to support Sustrans’ People and Organisation Development team. Helping us to deliver new and on-going people programmes and initiatives across the organisation.

Working within the People and Organisiational Development (POD) team, you will lead on a wide range of projects from Reward and Benefits, Talent Management, Policy creation/evolution to Employee Engagement and Culture initiatives advising on the best approach and methodology to ensure the projects are successful.

You will work in partnership with HR Business Partners, developing and implementing communication and engagement plans for project or change initiatives, including the creation of materials and upskilling of key people and colleagues as relevant. You will engage with all appropriate people within the Charity, providing timely updates as required to the Director of People Operations and Executives.

This role will require minimal travel, candidates can be based from home with occasional travel expected to one of our hub/offices located throughout the UK.



It is essential you are an effective and clear communicator, enabling you to engage with people at all levels, allowing you to positively influence colleagues to executive level. In addition, you will have a proven track record of building strong working partnerships with both co-workers and those who deliver change in an organisation.

You will have a solid understanding of HR processes and practices across the entire employee lifecycle and will have developed and supported talent management programs (i.e., performance, development, skills and competencies, career paths, and talent and succession planning programs) in a previous role.

You should be able to easily assess, and understand how, different People functions work and make recommendations on the best approach ensuring all aspects work both effectively and cohesively.

You will use your expertise to driving change and make improvements to projects, systems or processes while supporting and guiding internal managers and colleagues to embed new processes.

You should hold CIPD at associate level or above and it would be advantageous to hold a qualification in either Project management or in an HR discipline.
