Areté Associates, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States.

Our Arlington, VA office has an immediate opening for an experienced Program Manager. This is an exempt supervisory full-time position which can reside in Arlington, VA or Northridge, CA.

The successful candidate will direct all phases of programs from inception through completion. Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or subsystems of major programs. Participates in the negotiation of contract and contract changes. Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract. Acts as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance. Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test. Develops new business or expands the product line with stakeholders. Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications. Directs the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing, commercial and/or administrative areas.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage a technical team to successfully execute a government or internally funded program
  • Manage and communicate scope schedule and budget associated with assigned programs
  • Develop and manage relationships with the customer
  • Present program status in public venues both internally and externally
  • Assist in integrating new product concepts into cohesive future visions and opportunities
  • Assist in marketing and proposal development to government customers
  • Coordinate resource allocation within the company to assure program execution on time and budget
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 Required Qualifications:

  • 7 years’ (5 years’ with MS) experience in program management or leadership related disciplines
  • Master of Science Degree in Applied Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering/technical field
  • Demonstrated defense related government funded Research and Development program management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a technical team to identify and achieve key milestones and mitigate risks technical hurdles
  • Proven track record of working with government customers
  • Proven track record of generating follow on or new business with defense related government customers
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
