Who We Are:

The Tactical Aerospace Department provides aerospace related research, development, production, test and/or support to new products, sustainment, and modernization programs for the DoD industry, Allies, and U.S. Government.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Join our Tactical Aerospace Department to manage the development, integration, test, document, and manufacture of complex embedded avionics and DoD aerospace systems.
  • Development programs span multiple avionics/aerospace programs and ground base systems.
  • This position is located in San Antonio, TX.
  • Will be required to travel to other SwRI sites and/or customer sites.
  • As a Program Manager, mange one or more programs through the full product life cycle.
  • Perform typical PM tasks such as: create and manage to Integrated Master Schedules, manage program budgets, manage CDRL’s, interface with/present to senior management, and act as the primary interface to customers.
  • Will also be involved with leading Bid and Proposal efforts and assist with business development/marketing efforts.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Manage small and/or large programs as a Program Manager.
  • Manage engineering teams of differing skill sets to develop, document, integrate, and test complex avionics systems while managing the schedule, budget, EVMS, CDRL’s, and customer expectations of the project.
  • Present program status to senior management at least monthly.
  • Lead Bid and Proposal efforts as well as support business development/marketing efforts.
  • Manage Risks and Opportunities.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related engineering degree)
  • 10+ years: Engineering development and/or Program Management experience
  • Should have at least 3 years of experience within an engineering development environment (preferably within avionics, DoD aerospace, or complex electronics development projects) and 5+ years of experience as a Program Manager in avionics development
  • Shown experience leading engineering teams from complex development programs through test, production, and deployment
  • Experience in DOD contract vehicles (such as OTA, IDIQ, etc)
  • Experience managing customer expectations and with customer negotiations
  • Experience managing subcontracts and their deliveries
  • Experience within Systems, Software, Firmware, and/or Hardware engineering development and test
  • Experience leading complex avionics LRU development, including creating MS Project Integrated Master Schedules, managing through metrics and earn value, performing financial analyses, managing CDRL’s, and managing budgets is preferred
  • Experience within commercial certification processes (DO-178, DO-254, cert artifacts), RTOS’s, MBSE, SOSA, and FACE is preferred
  • Experience supporting business development/marketing is preferred
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required
