About Us

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central source committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense.



The Project Consultant provides leadership in identification of improvement opportunities within WTS as they relate to project management. This role also provides leadership and guidance to specific projects as needed, including enterprise wide technology projects directly impacting the student experience and the teaching mission of the University. A key objective of the role is to develop and mature the application of project management methodologies, tools and related processes throughout the WTS portfolio.

The Project Consultant assists WTS teams in identification of and opportunities to leverage ‘Good Practices’ in the redesign of business processes, assisting with defining, planning, coordinating and scheduling projects. The role also supports the definition of requirements, decision-making, quality assurance, change management, and other project management elements and monitors the use of project resources.



  • University Degree (preferably in a technical field such as Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering, etc.)
  • Project Manager Professional Certification
  • Certification in Change Management is preferred


  • 3 years’ work experience managing large complex projects, including all aspects of process development and execution
  • 3 years’ work experience supporting technology implementation projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert in a variety of software and tools used to support the management of projects and communication plans
  • Knowledge of quality standards relative to operational improvement and of project management methodologies
  • Knowledge of change management best practices
  • Skilled at managing team dynamics and development of team members with ability to work with a wide range of teams and share information as well as credit for team accomplishments
  • Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
  • Ability to maintain and develop an effective network of contacts that provide information and intelligence regarding Western's environment, emergent opportunities, and best practices
  • Client service skills with an ability to apply tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues and a range of personalities, motives and interests
  • Ability to lead during change and times of uncertainty by drawing on past experience and reaching out to colleagues for guidance when required
  • Well-developed presentation and public speaking skills in both creating and delivering presentations, including conducting training sessions and instructing others on areas of expertise
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports and lead business discussions
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments and commitment to professional development
  • Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
