The City of Bend has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, driven and effective manager to lead the Project Management Office (PMO). As the PMO Manager, you will have the opportunity to directly impact the success of our organizational improvement and innovation efforts by establishing a Project Management Center of Excellence and ensuring the successful implementation of the City’s Innovation Strategic Plan projects. The Innovation Strategic Plan is the City’s roadmap for elevating and expanding the use of data, technology and continuous improvement to support Council Goals, improve business processes and meet the changing needs and expectations of the community.


The PMO provides citywide project management support for non-capital projects and reports to the Chief Innovation Officer.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Tackle a variety of work: In addition to managing the Innovation Strategic Plan portfolio of projects, you’ll lead the effort to establish the Project Management Center of Excellence and be a citywide project management resource. You’ll be a go-to person that gets things done.
  • Innovate: You’ll identify areas for innovation and process improvement and collaborate with partners across the organization to put people-centric solutions in place.
  • Be a collective problem solver: You’ll work closely with departments, project teams and stakeholders to develop deliver projects and expand our organizational project management capacity.
  • Be a leader: You’ll manage and coach a talented team and help them realize their full potential.
  • Be a champion: You’ll champion Citywide initiatives and lead and/or participate in cross departmental stakeholder groups and project teams.

What we’re looking for:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in portfolio management, project management, continuous improvement and cultural change management.
  • 6 to 8 years' experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks with 4 to 6 years of people management experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and/or Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) Certification are preferred but not requirement.
  • Government experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
