Job summary:

The Project Manager will lead and own the projects for strategic initiatives, new product development, and foundational technology, for Business or Technology platforms. Has ownership for project product specifications. Responsible for the compilation of the plan, communication of the plan, and ensuring the execution in accordance with the approved plan. Accountable for project completion within schedule, budget and project scope.   Solicits required support for projects; operate as Project Manager and guides the direction of cross functional project teams in order to expedite the launch of new and differentiated products/technology into the market, managing projects in a coordinated process of a larger scope through the use of a staged development process. May serve as a member of the global Business team and works collaboratively with them to understand and influence sales revenue, margin and profitability and resource requirements. Insures process is followed for IP of products, materials, patent applications and protection of IP/trade secrets.


Specific Responsibility:

  • Provides project management support to the Business or Platform. Develops project plans, utilizing project management best practices that deliver high quality products within schedule, budget & scope.

  • Lead teams on all activities related to the development of new products or technologies in support of the project-level business plans, expediting launch of products into the market.

  • Ensures strategic direction of projects are in line with Business & Corporate strategies.

  • Communicates project status and plan plus P&L view to senior mgmt. Provides and recommends solutions to project issues impacting schedule, budget & scope; Escalate early to project sponsor any resource constraint or performance issues that will stand in the way of timely project completion

  • Utilizes Stage Gate Process to protect GT IP, investments. Project Management Plan (Economic risk modeling for commercial, technical, manufacturing); GANTT chart, Resource Management Plan, Project FMEA/Risk Analysis, process mapping, SIPOC, project documentation (ACCOLADE)

  • Represents PMO function on Business councils; Participates in periodic staff meetings to promote sharing of information within the group and across the functions





  • BS or equivalent in Engineering or Business disciplines; MBA preferred;

  • PMP certification preferred;

  • Experience using Six Sigma tools and methodology – GB certification desired; BB certification a plus.

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience preferably in progressively challenging engineering, project management and/or leadership roles

  • Strong Communication & Informing - Determines trigger points when NPD must gain approval from Gate Keepers (i.e.: changes on budget, schedules, resources & ROI commitments) and customers. Continually communicates NPD activities to other functional groups to promote dedication of GT resources towards accomplishment of project goals, deliverables and time lines.

  • Excellent project management skills - Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal; Ensures availability of resources to follow through on existing and initiation of new projects.

  • Interpersonal Savvy - Builds constructive & effective relationships; Uses diplomacy & tact; can diffuse even high-tension situations comfortably.

  • Command and presentation skills - Encourages direct & tough debate, but isn't afraid to end it and move on; Is looked to for direction in a crisis; Can manage group process during the presentation; Can change tactics midstream when something isn't working.

  • Proficient in use of personal computer and required software: MS Office (Word, PPT, Excel, Project);

  • Strong understanding of Six Sigma tools ideal
