Project Manager (Energy/ Utility)

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Responsible for project management of a portfolio of transmission projects for an electric Utility (Client). Projects include: new substation and transmission lines, and upgrades to existing substations and transmission lines including scoping, design, construction and close out of projects. Project management includes identifying and mitigating risks and issues; developing, evaluating, and managing cost, scope, and schedule certainty; focusing on safety; and delivering high quality results and transparency throughout project life-cycles. The project manager provides direct management and support to Project Team members.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes safe behavior and adherence to customer safety rules on the project. Leads the project team to establish leading indicators and proactive requirements to ensure safety is considered in all aspects of design and implementation for contractors, customer project team members, and the end user. Ensures contract scope of work includes safety deliverables/requirements as needed.
  • Identifies the technical skills required to achieve project goals. Works with the appropriate customer management to define the project team requirements and request assignment of appropriately skilled individuals to the Project Team. Ensures that team members fulfill the responsibilities as required of their roles.
  • Prepares contract requests, reviews and approves requisitions, change orders, etc., and processes invoices.
  • Leads the project team to develop project execution plan and execute the Project in accordance that plan along with the applicable corporate standards, guidelines, and processes. Ensures previous projects Lessons Learned and applicable industry experience is incorporated into the project execution plan.
  • Navigates the projects through associated deliverables and stage gates (estimates, schedules, gates, deliverables, etc.).
  • Oversees the project team in the development of project deliverables. Coordinates the activities of project stakeholders and working groups engaged in project work.
  • Establishes and maintains project documentation. Coordinates the efforts of all project participants, including consultants and contractors.
  • Manages the project in line with the project budget. Ensures project controls are implemented for effectively managing project scope, schedule, quality, cost, financial budget, cash flow and forecast, risk, contracts and communications in accordance with the applicable corporate standards and requirements.
  • Provides clear, timely and accurate project status reports for management. Prepares reports and presentations to management. Prepares and issues status reports as needed. Identifies, makes timely decisions and takes prompt action on project issues that could impact project performance. Promptly communicates issues to the next level of leadership that are outside the authority or capability to resolve.
  • Coordinates with all functional departments as required to achieve the requirements of the applicable corporate standards and to achieve project budget and timeline.
  • Monitors contractor performance in the area of project safety, schedule, cost, quality of work and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Delivers projects with cost and schedule certainty; manages and controls costs and schedules; manages risk and issues by identifying and mitigating accordingly.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Management or equivalent.

Minimum experience required of the position

5+ years of experience in Project Management, customer service, engineering or operations associated with industrial sector, power plant or an electric utility.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

History of safe performance, active safety involvement and participation and strong desire for a safer workplace. Experience in new ROW acquisition procedures for new line construction. Strong negotiation, interpersonal & group communication skills. Strong planning\organization\time management skills. Knowledge of Electric Utility, Substation design standards and construction & maintenance practices. Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel & Outlook, Power Point, Projects).

Location: New Orleans, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; Jackson, MS; Little Rock, AR; Beaumont, TX or Woodlands, TX. (New Orleans or Baton Rouge preferred) Travel Required: Up to 20% depending on project.

Any certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position

PMP certification is preferred and candidates without certification will be required to secure it within a reasonable period of time.
