About the Role

The Project Manager, working under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, will manage our Content Priority Advisory Group (CPAG) to proactively advance the development of educational and informational resources for our members. They will serve as a grass-roots organizer by keeping technical committees on track and aligned with strategic priorities.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Implements Strategic Initiatives

  • Works closely with the Senior Project Manager and volunteer groups to recognize trends and opportunities and translate them into products and services for the profession and association.
  • Inspires and engages committee members through collaborative facilitation and clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Maintains frequent communication with volunteer groups and evaluates opportunities for more engagement and/or streamlining of initiatives.
  • Tracks project performance using appropriate KPIs, metrics, tools, and techniques. Holds project teams accountable for planned outcomes.
  • Uses project management methodology to the advancement of initiatives.
  • Drafts copy for the annual State of Research Report and assists in review of member developed technical documents on behalf of AIHA.

Manages and Administers Technical Committees

  • Advances work on new emerging priorities through cultivating a community of subject matter experts (SMEs) and engaging our membership on an exchange of ideas.
  • Coordinates regular calls, schedule meetings, and video chats, prepare agendas and update documents following meetings.
  • Moderates online technical communities.
  • Posts to social media channels on technical and related matters.


Serves as subject matter expert to drive excellence in internal staff Project Management

  • Works with the Senior Project Manager to help communicate to staff best in class project management processes and implementation.
  • Assists in the management of Smartsheet projects.



Education & Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or an IH-related technical discipline.
  • 5 – 8 years of related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and professionallevel experience.
  • Required:
    • At least 3 years’ experience with technical volunteer groups and volunteer management
    • At least 3 years’ experience leading project teams of volunteer and/or contracted technical (STEM) subject matter experts
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Proven ability in using and applying sound project management techniques in managing projects
    • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft products (primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Preferred:
    • A Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
    • At least 2 years of previous experience in a non-profit or association, preferably managing in a scientific area.
    • At least 3 years of grassroots organizing experience.
    • Working knowledge of SmartSheet.
    • Able to work with an Association Management System (AMS).
    • Superior interpersonal skills as demonstrated by successfully working with a wide variety of customers and team members.

Some, minimal, travel may be required for this position.
