Project Manager II/III – Fossil Projects

The APS Project Manager II/III – Fossil Projects will lead and manage all phases of assigned business unit, cross-functional or enterprise-wide projects including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. Manages multiple projects typically lasting one (1) or more years, with project teams of more than ten (10) people, and involving multiple internal departments and/or external stakeholders. Manages the planning, coordination, and execution of projects during major outages. Manages project resources across one (1) to two (2) business units with project budgets typically between $2,000,000 to $25,000,000 and project scopes identified as high complexity as defined within the APS Project Complexity guidelines. Develops comprehensive execution plans. Communicates status updates and results to senior executives, enterprise-wide stakeholders and, at times, external stakeholders. Although this position is primarily based out of Corporate Headquarters in Phoenix, AZ this position requires travel upto 25% of the time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, monitors and manages all aspects of moderately scaled projects across one or more departments or business units including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure in accordance with internal process methodologies. Ensures completion according to project plan (i.e. scope, schedule, budget).
  • Develops and presents comprehensive project plan to project sponsors and management. Obtains all necessary approvals.
  • Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, staffing, progress reporting, people management, vendor relationships and troubleshooting.
  • Monitors performance and recommends schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions.
  • Oversees schedules and directs team resources. Ensures that materials and equipment are delivered on time.
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding quality, reliability, schedule and cost.
  • Provides timely and accurate information and status updates to project teams, business management, project sponsors, and senior management.

Requirements

Project Manager II Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Systems or related field OR an equivalent combination of college coursework and experience as a Project Manager or related responsibilities defining and/or managing project scopes, timelines, budgets and delivery equaling four (4) years, and
  • Five (5) years related project management experience.
  • Experience managing multiple small to medium size projects simultaneously. Extensive understanding of project management processes, principles and methodologies. General functional/technical knowledge of the business units line of business, practices, and procedures may be preferred or required. Demonstrated leadership, project management and organizational skills. Strong oral and written communication and people management skills. Easily adapts to change and uncertainty. PMP certification strongly recommended.

 

Project Manager III Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Systems or related field OR an equivalent combination of college coursework and experience as a Project Manager or related responsibilities defining and/or managing project scopes, timelines, budgets and delivery equaling four (4) years, and
  • Eight (8) years related project management experience.
  • PMP certification required.
  • Experience managing multiple medium to large scale projects simultaneously. Extensive understanding of project management processes, principles and methodologies. Comprehensive functional/technical knowledge of the business units line of business, practices, and procedures may be preferred or required. Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgment by making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. Able to understand needs and values of stakeholders and team members and apply that understanding to motivate behaviors and results. Experience in directing multi-discipline teams. Demonstrated leadership, project management and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and people management skills. Adapts to changing environment, shifting priorities and uncertainty. 

 

 

Preferences:

  • Masters’ degree in Engineering, Science, Finance or Business.
  • Project Management experience in the following fields: Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Fossil Mining, or Other Related Industries
  • Outage planning and budgeting experience
