Experience in the Healthcare field desired.

The Varian Project Manager is focused on solution execution, customer service and client retention by deeply understanding the customers strategy, business model and success metrics.  Customers will consist of complex, multi-site organizations, and strategic customers.
This position is responsible for working cross-functionally with the project team to create, communicate and execute the project plan that is representative of multidisciplinary (i.e. consulting, installation, customer) timelines and tasks.  These projects often include subprojects such as upgrades, hardware and 3rd party installations.  It will be the responsibility of the Project Manager to act as the leader and key point of contact for the customer for the overall project and execution, including overseeing and facilitating the Project Managers in the supporting subprojects.
Core Responsibility: 25%-50%

  • Acts as the leader and single point of contact both internally and externally from a project management perspective.
  • Facilitates the Oncology Information System implementations and upgrades and coordinates supporting subprojects such as hardware/3rd party offerings within the overall project.
  • Coordinates all aspects of project implementation for a client, from initiation to acceptance.
  • Implementations may involve acceptance of capitalized equipment, enterprise software systems, system integration, or consulting projects/engagements.
  • Required to work at client site from time to time.
  • Typically involves extensive interaction with Sales, Service, Logistics, Manufacturing, and other members of cross-functional teams within Varian and customer project teams.
  • Projects are typically focused on the delivery of new or enhancement of existing products with the goal of increasing product utility through the use of technology and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) adoption.
  • Project management skills, rather than technical skills, are key, but a strong technical background is required.
  • PMs manage schedules and aligns forecasts to meet business needs, while communicating with the customer and Varian project teams to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Organizes project activities and interdepartmental meetings; ensures communication facilitates completion of the program/project on schedule and within budget constraints.

Ability to operate with high level of ambiguity and minimal supervision
Ability to navigate a highly matrix organization effectively
Ability to work with remote teams across different time zones
Sound technical and business acumen
5-8 years’ experience in formal project management (preferably within the Medical Device/Software industry)
Must have a general knowledge of network design, software controls systems, and server management. Knowledge of the use and deployment of software in a healthcare environment, especially as applied to cancer care.
Must be able to facilitate and present both in person and remotely
Responsiveness and reliability
Desired Skills and Knowledge:
PMP certification from PMI
Formal training in Project Management and Risk Management methodologies
BS/MS in a technical discipline (e.g. Software or Hardware Engineering)
Successful track record of larger scale integration projects is a plus
Passion for customer service and relationship building
Ability to be an internal advocate/translator for our partners and an external promotor for Varian
Ability to work in matrixed and unstructured environments
Strong multimode communication skills, communicating with all levels in both organizations
Ability to synthesize quickly and translate between both organizations
Strong organizational and analytical skills with a proven track record of collaboration and consensus building
