ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position works remotely requiring a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.    

NOTIFICATIONS

UC Vaccination Policy: With limited exceptions, COVID-19 vaccinations are required for Covered Individuals under the Policy. Covered Individuals include all employees, students, or trainees who physically access a University facility or program in connection with their employment, appointment, or education/training.

Covered Individuals do NOT include employees who work 100% remotely with NO expectation that they will physically access any University location or program at ANY time. If 100% remote work ends, the employee is subject to Policy.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

This is a position within the Smarter Balanced division of the University of California Santa Cruz Extension.   

Smarter Balanced is a member led organization of states and territories that collaborate to provide formative, interim and summative assessment resources (e.g. tools, items, tests, etc)  that help educators better prepare their students to be college and career ready after they leave high school.   

The UCSC Extension is the leading workforce educator in Silicon Valley and is the only institution in the area to offer University of California-quality accredited courses designed by experienced instructors who are actually working in their field. We serve:

JOB SUMMARY

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced project management professional with a full understanding of multiple project management frameworks and methods (e.g. waterfall, Agile, etc.). Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to manage projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget and/or project team size. Applies relevant policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues related to the initiation, planning, execution, and closing of projects. Manages documentation and mitigation of project risks and resolution of project issues.

Salary Information: $73,700 - $104,600 / Annually.  Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES

60% - Project Initiation and Planning

Manage the development of project charters, including documentation of value proposition, project requirements, success criteria, budget, resource needs, etc.
Manage the identification and documentation of project requirements, elaborating from business requirements through stakeholder requirements to solution/technical requirements.
Lead the planning process with cross-functional teams to build project schedules and/or task backlogs to meet project requirements and success criteria.
Lead the process of identifying and documenting project risks and mitigation strategies.

40% - Project Monitoring and Execution

Apply advanced project management concepts to manage complex projects.
Direct project activities with the goal of completing the project on schedule and within budget constraints.
Monitor project progress and manage project-related communication with senior-level external and internal stakeholders.
Monitor project budget actual spend vs. planned budget.
Manage project risk log through project execution to either add risks or execute or update mitigation strategies as needed.
Manage project issues, escalating as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate critical information across disciplines. Understands how projects relate to other business strategies and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to identify risks and plan for contingencies.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. 
  • Effective organizational skills; demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks. 
  • Demonstrated effective written communication skills with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated effective verbal communication skills with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Proven leadership ability. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead efforts to effectively identify and document project requirements. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to work remotely from a home office and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement. 
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation. 
  • Ability to occasionally work nights, weekends and/or holidays. 
  • Ability to travel when required.
