KARL STORZ is seeking a Project Manager, Software Development. This position owns the product from concept to completion of transition and release to manufacturing and is a strong advocate for the project team. The Project Manager serves as a conduit from the team to the organization and is responsible for meeting all of the program aspects including, but not limited to, the development schedule, the development/BOM cost and the overall product quality.

 

This is a hybrid position and will be required to work onsite in our offices in Stafford, TX (Houston area) three days per week.

 

Responsibilities

 

The Project Manager takes responsibility for all phases of a project from initialization through pilot phase, proposes and manages feasibility studies, manages the design, and manages the prototype and pilot builds and the transition to manufacturing. The Project Manager is expected to identify and communicate risk, propose mitigation for the risk, and ensure that we meet our project timelines, cost targets and product quality. The Project Manager has overall responsibility during the project until release to manufacturing is complete. He/she is responsible for generating all documentation required for successful regulatory submittal. The Project Manager is expected to manage minor to major product development or other continuous improvement projects and may work under or with an overall system Program Manager.

 

This position executes multiple project plans, schedules, budgets and deliverables. Identifies needed resources for projects, defines and assigns major project roles. Establishes operational objectives and work plans and delegates assignments. Manages the development of medical devices consisting of extruded products, fabricated from various materials relative to intrusive body applications. Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, or products.

 

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • In conjunction with Product Management, is responsible for creating project execution and delivery timelines and product cost goals for new products in accordance with GPDP processes and procedures.
  • Participates in project team selection and directs the team during the life of the project. He or she may also report to an overall Program Manager for larger projects.
  • Understands all design deliverables from engineering necessary to complete the project and that they are accounted for in the project development schedule.
  • Identifies the need for an engineering team lead for complex SW and select HW projects. The engineering team lead would be responsible for creation of detailed design specifications derived from product requirements. The Team Lead would also be responsible for leading that team to deliver a sub-system or component according to the specifications. The Team Lead would be in constant contact with the project manager providing updates on deliverable status and issues.
  • Keeps the team and all stake holders informed of current schedule delivery dates based on progress to complete all project deliverables.
  • Manages the entire design phase to meet the project goals, while driving the transition to manufacturing in a positive and proactive manner. It is expected that the Project Manager will comply with GPDP as defined in the work instructions.
  • Ensures preliminary bills of material are done promptly; he or she is responsible for the original list of long lead items for the project and works directly with purchasing to ensure that we can meet project timelines.
  • Works with purchasing to identify and qualify new suppliers as required.
  • Upon release to Production, the Project Manager will work with the Manufacturing Engineer responsible for the project on the production floor and will facilitate the transition of information required to build the product in Manufacturing. At the completion of the project they will monitor feedback from the Service Department, identify trends, and support product or process improvements.
  • Communicates the overall project status, identify risks, provide risk mitigation recommendations, and provide clear updates to upper management as required.
  • Attends the EC meetings affecting their products.

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
  • PMP and/or IPMA Certification
  • 5+ years of successfully managing complex hardware and / or software development project teams
  • Experience with stage gate product development processes and project management
  • Experience with Microsoft Project
  • High level of “people skills” in regards to mentoring, coaching and communicating to the team
  • Excellent written and oral communications and works effectively with employees at all levels in the organization
  • Extremely organized and effectively drives teams to deliver products on time.
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to travel to beta sites and be physically capable of working in the operating room of a hospital; up to 10% travel during the year
  • Ability to work onsite in the Stafford office 3 days per week

 

Preferences

 

  • 8+ years of work experience in project management, marketing, manufacturing, or design engineering
  • Medical systems experience and knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental technology and products of Karl Storz.

 

Salary Details

$95,000 - $151,500

When determining a specific team member’s base salary and/or hourly pay rate, several factors will be considered including such things as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, professional credentials, internal equity, and the amount budgeted for the role.
