 Position Description


The Sr. Project Manager position offers the opportunity to lead a team that supports electric transmission, substation, and/or distribution projects. The Sr. Project Manager will be responsible for the profitable execution of their assigned project. This individual will be responsible for managing the scope, schedule, budget, and safety performance of multiple projects, as well as leads project teams through business case / capital approval process, development and execution of project plans through the initiation phase through project closeout.  The Sr. Project Manager will work with Client, Project Director, Program Manager, and Team as needed to provide support as needed. This individual will ensure work performed is in compliance with Client requirements, State, Local and Federal requirements. The Sr. Project Manager will have the highest of ethics and focus on safety and customer service on each and every project.

 Job Responsibilities 

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of each project, to manage scope, budget and schedule.
  • Develops and reviews project schedules, cost estimate, billing, bill of materials, scope of work, standards, contractor documents, and quotes.
  • Closely monitors and controls projects to maintain the highest levels of Safety at all times.
  • Manages all stakeholders involved (internal and external) and ensures professional project management from system design through construction and close-out phases (final customer acceptance). Manages company internal resources as well as subcontractors.
  • Facilitates the resolution of any conflict or project related issues.
  • Analyzes financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems. Effectively communicates project progress, issues/risk and financial status to management as required.
  • Manages risks and establishes project recovery plans when required. Resolves disputes with minimal need for escalation.
  • Ensures project document controls are in compliance with contract requirements and client standards.
  • Oversees project construction for compliance with specifications, local codes and installation techniques.
  • Manages the selection, ordering, and delivery schedule of materials schedule for the projects assigned, adequately ensuring manufacturing lead time is properly accounted for and managed.
  • Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors and subcontractors. Attends job progress meetings as required. Ensures subcontractors understand the expectations of the project.
  • Tasks may include but are not limited to, ensuring the completion of business cases, budgetary approvals, project scheduling, engineering requirements, design and engineering tasks, vegetation management reviews, project reporting, project financial analysis, major equipment procurement, environmental analysis, obtaining real estate and relationship management with external customers, vendors, townships and regulatory agencies, project quality assurance, and change management. Interacts routinely with key internal and external stakeholders including senior management, the Utility’s largest customers, and governmental and regulatory officials. 

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s Degree with equivalent work related experience and minimum of 8 years of direct Project management experience in the Utilities Industry preferred.
  • Experience or knowledge of the specific functional area or discipline (e.g., Utility design/planning/construction).
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills and/or PMP Certification.
  • Experience in dealing with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of many different disciplines.
  • Able to execute projects of higher project and contract complexity. (Multiple subcontractors and multiple scopes of work)
  • Experience in dealing with a large and diverse number of problems, often simultaneously.
  • Excellent understanding of Utilities procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of cost estimating and budget projections.
  • Ability to review engineering drawings and understand mechanical, electrical, plumbing and architectural plans and specifications.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with all project constituent groups.
  • Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong Personal Computer working capabilities in MS Office (excel, word, power point, project), Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment.
  • Able to travel locally as needed from the project location to the main office (Baltimore), and ability to work projects outside of the local mid-Atlantic area.
  • Candidates must have the ability to professionally speak, read and write English.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Asset Suite 8 Work Management Module (client environment)
  • Management experience with projects related to Utilities transmission, substation, and distribution facilities
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Certified
  • Microsoft Project, P-6 Primavera scheduling software, MS Office Suite, Visio
