Senior Business Advisor – Strategy (JO#7653)

 Job Summary:

The Senior Business Advisor provides senior management and business areas with consultation and guidance in the areas of business architecture, opportunity/issue assessments, business consultation practice leadership, and business analysis.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide business consultation and guidance to senior management and different business areas. Assist all levels of management to bring clarity to strategies, problems, and issues by developing an understanding of current business processes in order to make recommendations regarding business process and information changes, and options / alternatives. Create and maintain business process information and identify opportunities for implementing advanced business concepts.
  2. Perform business analysis, identify the root cause of business issues, and clarify business change issues/opportunities. Work with all levels of management and staff in a business area to diagnose the current business situation, to perform root cause analysis, validate the change drivers and environmental factors within the business area, validate any new findings within the business area, analyze and facilitate an agreement of the current business processes, identify any business or legislative constraints, benchmark "where we are"/"where we are going", perform value analysis. Use information gathered during analysis in the development of options/alternatives for new business initiatives with an enterprise perspective and in support of organizational strategic goals.
  3. Perform business process redesign and re-engineering. Work with all levels of management in the business area to conduct future process redesign/re-engineering by identifying current versus future state gaps in the business, developing a future state view to incorporate the new business initiative, facilitating understanding of how new business concepts, approaches, and thinking would impact the business, and identifying outcomes the business would like to achieve as a result of the initiative. Employ influencing and negotiating skills to gain consensus among all levels of management for the future state business model. Provide expertise to the business in developing the initial business case for change, including a benefits realization assessment, and assist projects to validate requirements or prove concepts before making a final decision.
  4. Develop and maintain high-level business requirements. Facilitate workshops with management and staff involved in new business initiatives, using agreed upon tools and methodology, to identify and document high-level business requirements for initiatives, as a starting point for Business Advisors and Business Analysts to then gather detailed requirements.


  1. Research external trends and links to external practices, recommend industry best practices and methods, and contribute to and attend internal business advisor forums to help promote the professional practice and methodology to all those interested in business consulting. Mentor and provide guidance to business initiatives analysts.


Job Requirements:

  • MBA or equivalent designation or knowledge and experience 

  • 6-10 years’ experience in Business Consulting/Analysis

  • Experience with the insurance / health services industry

  • Demonstrated experience with performance measurement, developing and interpreting business architecture models and diagrams, business process design and development, business planning

  • Demonstrated strong communication, influential and negotiating skills

  • Demonstrated political acumen

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset

  • Membership in the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) or Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CAMC) would be an asset
