What you can expect in a typical day

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Resource Planner to join us in managing and overseeing the planning and scheduling of Engineering Resources working on capital and expense projects that take place each year at our refineries, marine and land terminals, and retail sites.  We are looking for individuals with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of a multi-disciplined Engineering Services team and what they need to accomplish in an Oil and Gas projects environment.  This position may have a small team (1-3) of direct reports in the future.  If you are a logical thinker with a SME level capability in Primavera P6, and enjoy coaching and mentoring others, this could be a great opportunity for you.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Engineering Leads to gather input for building engineering project schedules in Oracle Primavera P6.
  • Review project schedules on a weekly basis with Engineering Team members; identify changes and model them in P6.
  • Generate Management Reports from P6 and analyze results; Performance, Resource Capacity, Progress, Profile Curves, Variances (to Plan or Baseline), etc.  Provide recommendations to address any potential issues.
  • Strong understanding of the interrelationship of a good technical project scope definition, quality of the schedule and estimate, construction, procurement and contracting, as well as commissioning and start up activity sequencing.
  • Know how to manage the impact of change and trends; Cost Performance Index (CPI), and Schedule Performance Index (SPI).
  • Working knowledge of Risk Management principles and methodologies.
  • Full understanding of cross-functional interfaces with engineering, procurement – materials & sub-contracts, construction, safety, quality, and operations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team that includes the end customer, engineering disciplines, execution management team, and vendors.

Requirements

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Expert level user of Primavera P6. 
  • Strong experience in applying skills and methods in scheduling and progress methodologies from AACE and PMI (PMBOK®) standard practices.   
  • A sound understanding of project delivery phases, activities performed in each phase, associated deliverables, and how these affect scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Measurement (EVM – ANSI EIA-748B) along with strong understanding of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Logical thinker.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze data, schedules, see trends, and provide recommendations to keep projects on track and identify resources.
  • Good knowledge of EPC best practices, and procedures.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Well organized and have ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Proficient with MS Office:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

 

Education and experience

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in an EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project planning and scheduling.
  • Familiarity with Primavera Risk and Portfolio Management would be an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, engineering technology is an asset.
  • AACE or PMI certification(s) an asset.
