The Opportunity

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for ITS project management, providing leadership, coordination and management of project delivery processes and functions. The Senior Project Manager will both manage projects as well as lead a team of ITS project managers and business analysts.  The role serves as a conduit for communication between project managers and the ITS leaders who make the strategic decisions for those projects.


Specific Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of project managers and business analysts
  • Lead assigned projects to completion and perform business analysis as required
  • Participate in establishing project management practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for ITS and the organization
  • Provide team with feedback, encouragement, and advice
  • Troubleshoot problems that come up during projects
  • Develop project plans complete with budgetary information and resource needs
  • Communicate with  ITS leadership about resource allocation
  • Host project meetings for directly-managed projects
  • Refine project budget as needed to ensure timeliness and fiscal responsibility
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers as needed
  • Communicate project objectives to all team members involved
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across leadership
  • Build and maintain relationships by engaging business leaders to establish credibility, solve problems, build consensus, and achieve objectives
  • Research best practices within and outside the organization to establish benchmark data and use continuous process improvement disciplines to achieve results


  • Completion of college in computer science or a related discipline (or a combination of related experience and education)
  • 5+ years in managing technology projects, with significant experience with large projects
  • Certification or formal training in project management and knowledge of top project-delivery methodologies. PMP designation is preferred
  • Experience with business analysis
  • Experience in successfully leading projects and programs to complete on-time, on-schedule and within budget
  • Experience leading, motivating, and managing project and program teams of varying sizes, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance
  • Experience presenting to project sponsors and strong communication skills, both written and oral, with technical and non-technical staff and all levels of management
  • Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from project sponsors, team members, stakeholders and peers
  • Knowledge of top project delivery methodologies
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment, demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence
  • Self-motivated and decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products
  • Very proficient in using Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
