JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Project Manager (PM) is a member of IT Project Management Office and the larger Information Technology team. This position will be based in Schusterman’s Washington DC, New York NY, or Atlanta, GA office. The PM will perform project management and business systems analysis activities to ensure IT projects are executed with excellence based on well-defined functional and technical requirements. This role will also focus on providing consultation and coaching to promote a consistent project management approach; and will collaborate with Schusterman internal team members and business partners. The PM will also support portfolio management activities to facilitate the alignment and achievement of IT’s goals on behalf of internal stakeholders. This hands-on position is under the leadership of the Director, IT Project Management Office. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Project Management (50%) 

Outcome: The Senior Project Manager will apply project management expertise and best practices, and strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to lead the delivery of timely, high-quality IT projects and deliverables to meet or exceed stakeholder expectations. 

  • Plan and manage simultaneous projects from initiation to closure, creating project charters, schedules, and other artifacts, as appropriate to the project management methodology  
  • Lead project team members in consistent application of project management practices toward successful completion 
  • Establish project communication plans to ensure timely stakeholder updates 
  • Anticipate and formally manage risks; and ensure resolution and/or escalation of issues
  • Incorporate change management principles to ensure successful stakeholder adoption and organizational readiness
  • Manage and track project performance, regularly developing and delivering status briefings and/or presentations to team members, product owners, sponsors, and stakeholders
  • Regularly review project quality to help achieve expected standards
  • Oversee and manage outsourced work, consultants, vendors, and relationships, as appropriate.
  • Support other projects led by the PMO
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Business Systems Analysis (25%) 

Outcome: The Senior Project Manager will capture, document, and communicate technical and functional requirements to ensure and support expected project outputs and outcomes. 

  • Lead facilitation meetings, interviews, etc., to elicit, validate, and analyze technical and functional project requirements from stakeholders at all levels
  • Document, illustrate, and verbally communicate complex requirements to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Support, coordinate or perform testing to ensure project deliverables meet defined requirements  

Project Management Consultation and Support (15%) 

Outcome: The Senior Project Manager will provide expert guidance and support to facilitate continuous improvement in the project management capabilities of IT staff and project teams. 

  • Maintain and promote project management processes and standards across the IT team
  • Provide project management guidance, consultation and/or professional development to IT personnel, product owners, project sponsors, and team members
  • Mentor team members, providing constructive feedback
  • Maintain and share expertise in enterprise project management tool sets 

Portfolio Management Support (10%) 

Outcome: The Senior Project Manager will support the monitoring of IT’s project portfolio and the communication of current performance to key stakeholders. 

  • Solicit and collect input from IT project managers regarding project and portfolio status 
  • Support the Director in maintaining IT internal team dashboards and reporting 
  • Develop portfolio reports, as needed 
  • Establish and/or maintain repositories for the secure documentation of current project information 

 COMPETENCIES NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 

  • Managing and organizing projects and teams proactively, effectively, and efficiently to achieve or exceed expected deliverables and/or outcomes. 
  • Establishing, modeling, and promoting collaborative and supportive project team cultures. 
  • Establishing effective, synergistic relationships with peers, senior leaders, and other stakeholders. 
  • Leading and facilitating elicitation meetings or stakeholder interviews to effectively capture, document and verify business and technical requirements.  
  • Employing excellent oral and written communication skills and effective listening skills to effectively educate, inform, and learn from stakeholders at all levels and across all functions. 
  • Developing professional, accurate, intuitive project management documentation for technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Developing and/or delivering project management workshops, training or other guidance and support to team members with varying levels of project management expertise.  
  • Maintaining a balanced view of the organization’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the project- and change management, technology, and business processes required to achieve them. 
  • Demonstrating a commitment to equity, diversity, and an inclusive working and learning environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

The following qualifications are representative of the high level of demonstrated skills, maturity, judgement, and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies required of Schusterman employees:  

  • At least 6 years of practical experience providing technical project management for complex IT and business process development projects, and full project life cycle facilitation. 
  • Deep understanding of various project management methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or similar project management software. 
  • Expertise in leading a project team through the design process with both technical and business partners. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence matrixed project team members and provide coaching and guidance to successfully execute projects in an organization.
  • At least 3 years of practical business analysis or systems analysis experience eliciting, documenting, and verifying functional and technical project requirements.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills necessary to develop cooperative working relationships with supervisory personnel, co-workers, project team members, and other stakeholders.
  • Deep familiarity, comfort, and interest in using a range of IT tools for collaboration, project management, business analysis, documentation, and illustration. 
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex issues and language for diverse audiences and platforms. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a high-quality work product in an agile environment. 
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. 
  • High degree of knowledge and familiarity within philanthropy and/or nonprofit sectors preferred. 
  • Flexibility in support of multiple US and International time zones. 
  • Ability to travel up to 5% domestically. 

Competitive salary band of $95,000-$145,000 based on experience and Schusterman’s commitment to internal equity. A strong benefits package is also included. Schusterman encourages ongoing professional development and supports activities aligned with one’s individual career growth plan. Schusterman does not cover relocation expenses for this position.
