Provides modeling and analytical support for the CCAR Forecasting team. Located within Finance, the CCAR Forecasting team is a centralized team focusing on Pre-Provision Net Revenue (PPNR) forecast, and was created to provide greater emphasis on the financial modeling activities required to support the capital planning process. Responsibilities involve several activities including developing statistical and financial models, model documentation, and performance tracking of models. The team will interact with all lines of business (LOB Finance) as it performs the daily business activities. Works under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement econometric and time series forecasting models. Utilize internal and external data as well as evaluate industry, economics, and market information to deliver model related analytics and results.

Create process evaluations of modeling related activities such as data quality, model performance tracking, desk procedures and model documentation.

Support LOB Finance teams in the use of quantitative models and analyses in financial forecast. Provide train and analytical support to make sure that each team understands the models and their limitations.

Work with Model Risk Management to ensure compliance with model risk management policies and support model validation.

Maintain a high level of competency in statistical and analytical principles, tools and techniques. Manage the relationship with related business partners and ensures that modeling projects are delivered in a timely manner.

Provides support and training to model users to ensure that each team understands the models and their limitations

Responsible for developing predictive models to provide modeling solutions to Discover's business partners. Designs and develops models, utilizing machine learning and other algorithms. Presents the results of mathematical modeling and data analysis to management or other end users.

Researches and leverages state-of-the-art modeling techniques; participates in modeling innovation.

Leverages extensive, deep technical knowledge and leadership skills to drive the development of data science solutions and implements data-driven recommendations and outcomes.

Maintains a high level of competency in statistical and analytical principles, tools and techniques, and supports the advancement of the "best-in-class" analytical capabilities to unlock new capabilities and performance, and quickly adapts to modern modeling techniques. Demonstrates knowledge in analytical tools.

Accumulates business and data-domain knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or related quantitative field
  • 2+ years of experience in developing data-based analytical solutions, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we'd also look for:

    • 2-3 years of experience in building, testing and implementing complex and sophisticated econometric and statistical models
    • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to quickly master complex financial and risk concepts
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
    • Proficient in statistical software packages such as SAS,R, Python
    • In lieu of a Master's Degree, PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative field, with at least 1 year experience in building, testing and implementing complex and sophisticated econometric and statistical model
    • Financial services or banking industry experience
    • Lean six sigma and/or demonstrated process improvement experience
    • Ph.D. in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or related quantitative field
