Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

The Senior Project Engineer will have a significant role in the deployment and testing of Aireon’s air traffic surveillance services. Reporting to the Implementation Engineering Manager, the Senior Project Engineer will be involved with all phases of the systems engineering life cycle including requirements development, design, implementation, and test.

This individual will manage the technical aspects and be the principal customer technical interface for implementing and validating the delivery of Aireon’s services. They will help tailor service configuration, initiate change management activities, and participate in new system and service development projects. The Project Engineer engenders strong peer working relationships with Aireon’s customer’s engineers and project managers to define, plan, procure, install, and test service delivery telecommunications, networks, hardware, and software. They will support sales and customer implementation activities around the world. 

In addition to managing implementation projects, the Senior Project Engineer also supports sales and technical conferences and symposiums, works closely with customer account teams to investigate issues, and with Aireon’s system design, software development and operations teams to develop, configure, and maintain solutions that meet customer requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead implementation and service validation projects
  • Manage logistics, schedules and customer expectations
  • Conduct test activities at ANSP locations
  • Work with ANSPs to establish service parameters, performance requirements, and service level agreements
  • Educate customers on Aireon’s system operations and services and conduct training sessions
  • Demonstrate Aireon’s services and service delivery subsystems
  • Help diagnose root cause and develop work arounds and mitigations for correcting service anomalies
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate performance and anomalies
  • Conduct and document results of site surveys
  • Document and maintain current ANSP status and track ANSP issues to closure

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong initiative with the ability to lead test activities and projects
  • Ability to independently work at remote locations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in teams to achieve desired results
  • Ability to function in a start-up, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Proactive communicator and customer service oriented, with solid written and verbal skills
  • Desired to have a Technical background in air traffic management or air traffic surveillance
  • Ability to travel frequently both domestically and internationally
  • US Citizen, or Permanent Resident (Green Card), capable of receiving a FAA SF85P public trust
  • Technical background in the air traffic management (ATM) communications navigations and surveillance (CNS) technology area

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/EEO:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum of six years engineering experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the air traffic management technology and operations field. 
  • Desired to have Experience in implementation and integration of air traffic management system
  • Experience with formal test processes for validating that system and service requirements are met
  • Experience with surveillance technologies such as ADS-B and/or Mode S is desirable
  • Experience with telecommunication and networking technology and protocols is desirable
  • Experience working with test and analytical tools/scripts are a big plus
  • Desired to have at least two years of experience in the air traffic management technology and operations field.
