The Senior Project Manager for the Product Development group within the Office for External Education (OEE) at Harvard Medical School supports a growing portfolio of educational products and programs designed for OEE’s target markets of corporate learners, health care professionals, and the general public. This position will operate as the supervisor of a project management team, supporting strategic product development initiatives and establishing and monitoring workflows. The Senior Project Manager will be experienced in managing projects from discovery through delivery, designing production plans, monitoring progress, escalating risks, and refining processes for efficiency and scale. With an in-depth understanding of project management best practices and the appropriate application of agile and waterfall workflows, the Senior Project Manager will support decision-making around business and project management systems that ensure streamlined work, efficient communication and timely delivery of learning products. Reporting to the Director of Instructional Design and Learner Experience, this position will model OEE Product Development’s standard of excellence by delivering on quality, scale and learner success.

Primary functions of this position:

Management (30%):

  • Oversees project management team for OEE Product Development
  • Coaches project managers on best practices in designing production plans and managing projects
  • Models effective communication with project stakeholders, and clearly delineates responsibilities of project managers
  • Assesses business and project management systems and advises OEE Product Development leadership on business and workflow decisions
  • Forecasts team capacity and pipeline projects and facilitates efficient resource allocation

 

Project Management (60%):

  • Collaborates with HMS faculty, product managers and OEE Product Development leadership to clearly define project scope, goals, schedules and deliverables
  • Designs production plans and assists in assigning resources
  • Tracks deliverables and deadlines
  • Effectively communicates with stakeholders, and authors regular updates for leadership
  • Moderates kickoff and project updates meetings, writes focused agendas, and ensures meetings start and end on time
  • Facilitates team brainstorm sessions to design workflows and troubleshoot project risks
  • Standardizes workflows and assigns appropriate tasks to individual contributors within the project management system
  • Designs dashboards for OEE Product Development leadership and product managers to regularly assess health of ongoing projects
  • Authors documentation for workflows and tasks, and ensures efficient file management and sharing

 

Consultation and Research (10%):

  • Stays abreast of and applies innovative practices in project management
  • Collaborates with product managers and project managers across OEE
  • Consults on designing high-performing project teams and workflows



Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in management, creative media or a related field, and 5-7 years of relevant experience in project management
  • PMP certification
  • Excellent supervisory, organizational, and communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated experience managing a team of project managers.
  • Possesses the ability to master new software applications and technologies as they are introduced to the department
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMI-ACP certification
  • Background or expertise in medical science or the health care industry
  • Background or expertise in supporting teams that develop online learning content
  • Experience with data management and learning analytics
