The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our team. This new position provides an opportunity for a knowledgeable and conscientious professional to implement a project management program within the court.

Overview of Duties

The Senior Project Manager oversees the program management unit; manages complex projects; and assists executives with financial management of projects. The major responsibilities and duties include the following:

  • Establish, implement, and maintain a project management framework, governance practices, and methodologies. Institute tools that support project management best practices and provide information capture, reporting, control, information sharing, and management insight. 
  • Provide leadership and oversight on key strategic initiatives. Lead, influence, negotiate, and work effectively with cross-functional teams. Provide the day-to-day leadership of the project management team. Supervise other project managers and staff assigned to projects, directly or indirectly. 
  • Provide oversight of all projects ensuring they meet court and industry standards; proceed according to timelines; meet targets and expectations; and adhere to established operating parameters. Identify issues and assess project risks quickly and proactively, taking appropriate actions as required. 
  • Establish and control revenue and expense budgets for the project management team. Provide timely and accurate reporting of the status of both individual and the portfolio of projects. Manage project scope and implement change control procedures to ensure that changes to deliverables or functionality are handled appropriately. 
  • Lead complex projects throughout the life cycle of project management, overseeing implementation and guiding projects to be delivered timely, within scope and within budget. 
  • Manage projects in accordance with Project Management Institute (PMI) standards. Develop project charters, scopes, and objectives, involving relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility and alignment with the court’s priorities. Organize and plan project tasks and schedules.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field. Ten years of experience in project management including six years leading project management teams. Solid understanding of project management and best practices. Resource management experience. Highly precise, detailed, and self-organized. Ability to work under pressure and within the constraints of conflicting deadlines. Analytical and proactive, problem-solving approach. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Proficiency in project management tools/software and Microsoft Office.

Preferred: PMP, PgMP, or CPM, and Lean Six Sigma certifications. Master’s degree in related field. Experience with cloud-based hosting platforms and version control methods. Related experience in a court, government agency, or equivalent environment.

Travel for this position is required. The selected candidate is provisionally hired pending results of background check and fingerprinting.
