Job Summary

This role will be responsible for several large-scale University of Colorado Boulder Student Affairs’ strategic initiatives and for the management of day-to-day project management operations. This position will run several concurrent critical projects through initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing. Through multifaceted organizational skills, this position will lead complex projects that produce desired results by ensuring specific project deliverables are met until project completion. This position will lead change management efforts associated with assigned projects including regularly communicating changes for high stakeholder engagement. This person will report to the Project and Portfoio Manager for the Division of Student Affairs while working closely with other Student Affairs leadership.

Project management is specifically for Student Affairs focused projects. Student Affairs led initiatives include those in support of Student Affairs Human Resources, Student Affairs Financial Planning and Reporting, Student Affairs Business Services and other project solutions for Student Affairs.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

Project Management

  • Responsible for developing project schedules; managing resource requirements; and budget development and oversight.
  • Produce regular status reports, taking action to ensure timely delivery, and anticipating issues proactively, while developing contingency plans. 
  • Facilitate communications with project sponsors, stakeholders, team members, constituents, and service and support personnel and management.
  • Assess project requirements, objectives, timeline, and resource needs for strategic projects so they can be easily prioritized. 
  • Manage progress, milestones, and critical dates to ensure initiatives meet system-wide Student Affairs deadlines and objectives. 
  • Partner with senior leadership members in Student Affairs to facilitate meetings and support their strategic initiatives.
  • Direct project performance and plans for ongoing improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of project related business practices.
  • Research, understand, and implement promising practices related to project management.
  • Synthesize and draw key insights from data sources to solve complex problems and lead to decision-making and action.
  • Build strategy for next phase of project implementation. 
  • Develop plans to fully utilize technology as a tool to improve project management processes.

Change Management

  • Develop and apply objective based change management strategies and communications plans to ensure stakeholders and team members are informed regarding expected project outcomes.
  • Increase stakeholder engagement and change management enhancement by actively collaborating with leadership, staff, other department personnel, vendors, support staff, and the university community in general.
  • Lead constituent communication efforts related to initiatives and projects to promote understanding and buy-in. 
  • Develop business process design and workflow, testing and user acceptance, deployment, and organizational management and communication tools for project success.
  • Create ongoing change management focused communication for stakeholders, conduct formal reviews, ensure requirements are understood and met, and address issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Partnership and Leadership

  • Lead problem resolution efforts and managing relationships and service level performance of service providers – University and 3rd party vendors.
  • This may also include direct troubleshooting and support activities with customers.
  • Train appropriate division staff on basics of project management practices; provide guidance and support in using technologies such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Collaborate and improve project pain points with business analysts, other project managers, information technology partners and other Student Affairs professionals.
  • Champion student success initiatives campus wide, positively promote Student Affairs and proactively and offer assistance or seek out tasks and projects when there is down time.
  • Represent the Student Affairs to the broader campus through presentations and committee membership where appropriate.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of practitioner experience in a higher education setting, with at least two of those years in progressively responsible management roles.
  • Three years of project management experience relating to process improvements and implementing complex strategic goals and program initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Agile methodology experience.
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Experience managing information technology projects that produce enterprise class products and services.
  • Formal training in conflict resolution and/or root cause analysis is desirable.
  • Experience working collaboratively with teams to produce results.
  • Master's degree in higher education, business or related field.
  • Two years of successful supervisory and leadership experience of staff.

Salary Details

Anticipated Starting Salary is $66,000.
