DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

University of California Health (UCH) comprises six academic health centers, 20 health professional schools, a Global Health Institute and systemwide services that improve the health of patients and the University's students, faculty and employees. All of UC's hospitals are ranked among the best in California and its medical schools and health professional schools are nationally ranked in their respective areas.

The Leveraging Scale for Value (LSfV) team is responsible for providing oversight of complex processes while executing targeted initiatives with the overarching goal of providing value through systemness across all of UCH.

Within various initiatives, the goals are increasing revenue, sharing best practices across the system, and achieving significant cost savings. Key areas of focus include:

Supply Chain

Laboratory Services

Pharmacy

Capital Equipment

POSITION SUMMARY

Independently applies wide-ranging experience and proficiency in organizational development, effectiveness, business process analysis and strategic planning on projects that involve multiple organizations and stakeholders. Uses advanced organizational development professional concepts and organization objectives to resolve complex organizational development, design and effectiveness issues. Regularly works on highly complex issues of strategic engagements where analysis of circumstances and information requires an in-depth evaluation of factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Project Portfolio Management: Manage projects effectively within budget and timeline goals. Identify key dependencies between projects and prioritize as appropriate. Facilitate active collaboration between cross- functional leadership teams at all health systems (and related parties) to execute consistent project delivery. Regularly report systemwide progress for all transformation, savings, and operational improvement (OI) initiatives, action planning as necessary. Debrief with system leaders after project completion and refine PM approach and for future state projects. Identify opportunities to iterate on and optimize finished projects.

Business Analysis & Insights: Provide business intelligence insights by leveraging available internal resources and external relationships to inform business decisions, the positioning of opportunities on a project plan, and justification for senior leader review. Assist in the development of an all systems operational dashboard. Consolidate and optimize monthly reporting practices of vendor partners. Drive continuous improvement of strategy analyses by adopting best-practice processes, SOPs, and tools. Present regional pricing and profitability analyses of regional and systemwide programs. Seek insights on local market dynamics, and differentiate trends and one-time events that can impact project success/sustainability. Leverage these insights to define systemwide value proposition and influence project scope.

Strategic Growth Planning: Support Director in systemwide growth plan based on operational needs assessment Support systemwide business planning and ROI. Solicit systemwide support in identifying and capturing value related to systemwide savings initiatives. Systematically review regional supply and contracted services spend and present action plans to consolidate systemwide purchasing volume and achieve all-system price parity by category. Work cross-functionally with health system colleagues, including Legal, Compliance, Finance and other business contacts as appropriate, to coordinate the review and finalization of contracts. Identify opportunities to retire antiquated and/or redundant systems and processes within regions.


Required Qualifications
  • Three years or more of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage complex projects, track progress, and create action plans.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized, strategic organization interventions.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills.
  • Highly skilled in facilitation, consulting and relationship building.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained.
  • Possesses strong consulting, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates skill consulting to managers and groups at all levels.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
  • Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.
  • Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead engagements from inception to conclusion.
  • Ability to persuade through both logic and appeal to positive motivations.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MHA) preferred.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: The recommended salary range is $88,000 -$101,500 commensurate with experience.
