This job is one where an individual can analyze requirements, propose solutions, conduct engineering analyses, manage research and development activities, and operate state of the art satellite systems. You'll need the technical and people skills to keep technical projects up and running in a dynamic work environment.

The Central Intelligence Agency's Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T) is seeking candidates to serve as Technical Developers to focus on technical space and ground acquisition, systems engineering, research and development, and mission operations at the National Reconnaissance Office (www.nro.gov).

DS&T Technical Developers drive critical engineering programs working at the National Reconnaissance Office. They turn user needs into successful R&D and production satellites and their associated ground systems. Individuals in this field also define baseline project scope and conduct acquisition planning and source selection. Candidates will define architecture and allocate requirements; develop and execute system engineering management processes; identify inter-segment system problems and risk mitigation and coordinate/manage the resolution process; lead technical exchange meetings, attend change control board meetings, conduct technical and project management briefings; lead configuration management process; conduct efficient, thorough reviews at program control gates, presenting decision authority. Business skills for the management of cost and scheduling, coupled with technical knowledge are a must.

DS&T Technical Developers at the National Reconnaissance Office may have career broadening experiences that include domestic and foreign travel, technical and management training, and opportunities that could take them to other parts of the DS&T, CIA, and other IC agencies.

Requirements

 for DS&T Technical Developer positions at the NRO include initiative, creativity, integrity, technical excellence, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ideal candidates have a self-starter attitude, the ability to work independently and in a group. A minimum of a bachelor's degree (graduate degrees desired) in one of the below listed fields is required:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical
  • Computer
  • Mechanical or other engineering disciplines
  • Material Science
  • Mathematics/Statistics
  • Physics

Applicants must also possess strong written and oral English communications skills. A GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is preferred.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is essential:

  • Additive manufacturing/Rapid Prototyping
  • Analog design and circuits
  • Digital design and circuits
  • Digital Signal Processing design and programming
  • Electromagnetic fields, antennas and propagation
  • Fabrication skills in a Prototype Environment Project/program management -Fiber optics and cable communications
  • Internet/Web technology
  • Network security & engineering
  • Programming (C, C++, Internet, Windows 3.X/95/NT applications development, interrupt processing/service routines, device drivers, RS-232 communication applications)
  • Project/program management
  • Signal processing and analysis
  • Systems Architecting
  • Systems Engineering
  • Video design and circuits
  • Audio design and circuits
  • Voice/data communications (satellite, RF, wireless and telecommunications networks)
