Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Marine Archaeology Program Manager located in Germantown, MD. The Marine Archaeology Program Manager will provide support to cultural resource projects throughout the United States and internationally, as needed. The Marine Archaeology Program Manager will have extensive knowledge of marine archaeology data collection methods, data analysis, and data interpretation, demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory environment, high-level technical writing skills, and the ability to direct and mentor staff. Requirements for this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as AECOM Underwater Archaeology Program Manager.

  • Lead growth of AECOMs underwater archaeology program nationwide and internationally.

  • Liaise with Business Line leads and Project Managers to support underwater cultural resource needs nationwide and internationally.

  • Lead and support proposal development.

  • Work with CRM Department Manager and other CRM Deputy Department Managers to lead and grow department and support growth of CRM Department staff.

  • Lead the scoping of marine archaeological projects and utilize GIS, site records, and other data sources to identify locations where sites can occur.

  • Keep records and maintain the relevant State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) documentation pertaining to cultural resources.

  • Provide regulatory compliance support for Federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients.

  • Serve as a Principal Investigator and have experience preparing Work Plans, designing research and field methodologies, directing field crews including scheduling work, making individual or teamwork assignments, and leading the instruction of others in the use of equipment, technology, and field methods, performing and overseeing data interpretation, overseeing report production, and making determinations of eligibility and client recommendations.

  • Support all phases of archaeological investigation and regulatory compliance.

  • Collect information and make judgments through observation, interviews, and the review of documents.

  • Write archaeological reports and/or prepare archaeological site forms and in making decisions about project alternatives, NRHP evaluations, and assessing effects on historic properties.

  • Work with technical field, lab and office staff, managers, and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet AECOM quality standards.

  • Perform manual labor including diving.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 6+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Due to the nature of the work US Citizenship is required.

  • Valid Drivers License Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA/MS or PhD in Maritime Archaeology with a focus on marine paleo-environment and sedimentary processes

  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards for Archeology.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience, including five (5) years of supervisory experience.

  • Experience with geophysical survey methodologies

  • An understanding of field-testing experience

  • Working knowledge of isotopic dating

  • Demonstrated understanding of marine paleo-environment reconstruction and sedimentary processes

  • Ability to conduct or interpret paleo landform reconstructions

  • Clear and concise writing skills

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with State and Federal CRM legal framework

  • Ability to travel for periods potentially extending 30 days or more

  • Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain or marine vessels in a wide range of weather conditions.
